Recently I had a friend who came down with kidney failure, which wasn't detected on time until it got to the final stage. Even when the person was getting sick and noticing some symptoms, he was adamant and refused to go for a checkup, telling everyone that they shouldn't bother about his health and that those symptoms were minor issues that would be resolved with time.
Eventually the individual collapsed on a certain day and was rushed to the hospital. A series of tests were conducted, and the kidney failure has passed all the other three stages where it could have been managed properly and with less financial burden and is now at the final stage. You can imagine how much finances the family is currently spending on dialysis to keep the person alive.
In my own case, a medical checkup is a must and should be as regular as twice a month. As per someone living with a health challenge, a special clinic is made available in all hospitals where warriors ought to constantly check up on the state of their health. Several crises and pain episodes can be prevented with the regular checkup, but guess what? I can't remember the last time I visited a hospital for a checkup.
I am literally guilty of taking my health conditions for granted. Formerly it cost $2 a month for a checkup, but now that amount has been raised to $6, meaning that I have to budget $6 a month to keep my health in check. This is the stage where people begin to think about how much they earn monthly to see if that amount can be spared for healthcare.
I do keep some first-aid supplies at home with all the pain meds needed and would often help myself out of the box, and even though I worry a little about not going for checkups, I often do not hesitate to visit the hospital when I notice unusual symptoms.
We also have the blood pressure and sugar level testing machines at home, which is useful to monitor some of those vital signs. It's fair enough that we can do some of these basic tests at home with the latest technologies while I equally look forward to a change of this negative habit of avoiding medical checkups. Visiting the hospital wouldn't be bad once in a while after all. We have got a lot of life experiences around us that have taught us some important lessons about taking our health affairs seriously and I hope that we all learn from these mistakes and have a positive approach towards medical checkups.
