Finding a place to stay for studying while away from home is a bit challenging. In choosing a boarding house, we didn't just consider the rent but also the safety. Nowadays, with so many crimes happening, we need to double our awareness and make sure it’s a comfortable and welcoming environment.
My friends and I decided to go to college together at the same university. However, due to financial problems, we're uncertain if we can pursue college because the school is far from our homes, and it takes two rides to get there.
Others said that we could take a bus to save money, but the bus rarely passes by that school, especially at night. We had many thoughts cross our minds, like refusing to go to college and just looking for a job, having a part-time job while studying, or renting a boarding house near the school. Every time we think about going to college, we feel anxious because we know it will be difficult for us to go that far, but we want to.
Due to our eagerness to pursue college, we always try to stay positive and ignore the negative thoughts that could lead to doubt. We always believe that if you really want something, there is a way to achieve it. Just don't lose hope.
When we found out that we all passed the qualifications for enrollment, we were so glad and blessed because, finally, we could pursue the dreams we’ve always wanted. The only problem that never leaves our minds is how we can survive and where we can get the money to provide for our needs.
We’ve done a lot of side jobs, like house cleaning, selling old t-shirts, shorts, and dresses that have never been used, babysitting, and online selling. We did these together to earn money and save for our future expenses.
One day, something unexpected happened. A two teachers knew about our difficulties in pursuing college and approached us, offering help. They kindly offered to provide us with some goods for our daily needs and also offered us a house that they haven’t used for a long time because they had a new one.
When we heard that, we were all speechless and shy because we never thought someone would make such an offer to us. Furthermore, the house was given to us for free, so we don't need to pay rent every month. As for the goods, they provided rice and canned goods.
We’re so happy to know that someone, aside from our parents, is concerned about our future. They told us that we’re good students and they know we’re determined to finish our studies.
Additionally, they don’t have children to provide for, so they wanted to help us so that we won’t have to worry too much about our daily needs.
Yesterday, we visited our boarding house to clean and arrange things there. It has two bathrooms and one sink.
The surroundings are refreshing and breezy. The people there are kind and welcoming. We feel comfortable and have a sense of safety living in that place.
We’re very thankful to them for having such good and big hearts. They only asked us to continue pursuing our dreams, aim high, always be good and humble, and most of all, always pray to God.
