Some crimes are not worthy

Honestly, crime is crime, and most of the time you can't go without getting punished. But there are some crimes that just aren't worth it.

Well, maybe because I'm in a country where laws are not really being used for criminals, but for those that have money. I mean, once you have money, you can commit any crime and go free. Yeah, we have seen a lot of cases where they exchanged people for crimes in my dear country.

But apart from all these I've said so far, there are some crimes that are not just worth it. Not like it's not worthy, but then they need to be pardoned and not punished.

Imagine someone that stole foodstuffs going to prison; I mean, it's a thing we can just look into the matter and get a reason the person did what they did. I mean, if someone is not hungry, they will not steal foodstuffs, instead of us looking for a way to help them. Punishment is not the next thing for them.

Obviously, if the country is good and there is no poverty in the country, I'm sure no one will be hungry, not to talk of saying they want to steal foodstuffs.
Some things are not just worth it. Is it not this country we were all together in when we heard that snake swallow millions of naira, and what did we do to that? Absolutely nothing. If they can't punish the real culprit in the society, why punish someone who is only trying to feed himself and his family?

That makes me remember some incidents that happened in the past few weeks about the news I heard about a guy who spent fourteen years in prison just because he stole a chicken. Funny enough, some said he wasn't even the one that stole the chicken. But regardless, let's say he was the one. Now imagine spending that year in a prison. I mean just a chicken.

Meanwhile, there are real thieves out there who stole billions of Nigeria's money, and still nothing happens to them. If the government of my country can use the same energy they are using on small thieves, it can also be used on the big thieves who are stealing the treasure of this country; honestly, the country should have been far better than this.

I strongly believe that someone who is stone-cold sober is just hungry; instead of taking them to jail, why not just find them work that will pave the way for them? Have you ever seen a wealthy person stealing food before? Absolutely not. Here is why we need to rethink people who steal just because they want to survive.
Some people don't have any problem in this world; they just want to be fed, and their problem will disappear.

You know, sometimes I don't blame those that even engage in fraudulent activities. I meant there is no work anyway; the only right I think the government can arrest people that steal petty things is just that they should provide that particular thing in surplus to the society.

Imagine sending someone to jail because of chicken where we have the real thieves that should be punished? This is how shallow our government can be, not looking at the real offence but chasing over the smallest act that should only be taken lightly and proffering solutions for because the one who stole chicken could be hungry and needs to be helped.

Damn, 14 years in prison for stealing chicken. Imagine how much chicken was 14 years ago, not even up to a thousand naira, now imagine someone spreading 14 years in prison just because of that. That is just cruelty beyond anything I have heard in my life.
