Learning with Limits . Using Phones in the Classroom

in Hive Learners2 days ago

When I was in school, mobile phones were not so common. Our world of learning meant books, notebooks and lessons taught by teachers. Smartphones were not a part of life then. But today, mobile phones have become an indispensable thing for school students. It is not only a means of communication but also a huge storehouse of knowledge. But has the rise of this technology made everything easier, or has it also brought some complications?

Today's students are growing up in an era where Google, AI and apps are at their fingertips. A lot of information is available with a click. If you don't understand a topic in class, you can watch YouTube videos and find solutions to complex math problems on the calculator app. Mobile phones have opened a new door for education. But there are some problems waiting on the other side of this door.

The biggest question about the use of mobile phones in schools is—are students really using them properly? If someone logs on to social media while listening to the teacher's lecture in class, it is detrimental to their learning. Cheating using phones in the exam hall has become very common these days. This is how the value of education is being lost.

In our time, the word attention was very important. But in the case of current students, the biggest reason for this loss of attention is the mobile phone. A message during class means losing attention. When we used to study, tiffin time was a time to chat with friends or listen to interesting stories. But now many students spend that time immersed in screens.

However, there is a flip side to this. With the help of phones, students can get a lot of information and tools that were unimaginable in our time. Today's students are learning coding, learning video editing, and even creating various projects with AI. Mobile phones are a great medium for developing skills along with studies.

In my opinion, balance is the best solution. It makes no sense to completely ban the use of phones. Rather, if the school authorities give the right guidelines—like only educational apps can be used in class or there should be a subject where they need to use their mobile phones for learning, and the use of personal phones should be limited during tiffin—then everyone will benefit. Creating awareness among students is also very important. They need to understand that mobile phones are a powerful tool, which if used properly can improve their future. It is not a toy, but a part of education. We are standing at a time where technology has become a part of our lives. It is impossible to avoid it. So we should make our phones a friend, not an enemy. Students should understand that if used properly, it will be helpful for their future. And teachers should also guide students so that they can utilize the benefits of mobile phones.

Today, there is a debate about how much mobile phones should be used in schools. But it is certain that technology is changing our lives. In this era of technology, it is difficult to imagine education without mobile phones. However, its misuse can be reduced with the right regulations and awareness.

Students should understand that if used properly, it will be helpful for their future.

Most students lack this understanding and that’s why many have become a victim. If their could be a proper campaign and awareness of the negative effects. As you have rightly said. The Academic world will improve.
