Good day *Hivans!* It's a great pleasure to be back and to talk about one crucial topic that has become a norm in our society. Tipping as a topic can be viewed from different perspectives. For the sake of simplicity, one can define tipping as a way of saying thank you for a kind gesture rendered to him or her.

In our society of today, tipping has taking a huge space in our day to day activities and in most cases when you fail to tip, you may not reach your expected goal on time.

The tipping culture in Nigeria where I am writing from has become a plague. There was a time I queued up in a banking hall for a transaction. I was on the queue for quite a while some customers who did not queue up with those of us waiting to be attended to were considered and they didn't have to stay too long in the banking hall before they completed what they came for.

This singular act raised eyebrows among other customers as an alarm was raised to question why the protocol was broken by the same people who made them. One of the customers who probably had enough money in his account but not know because he just returned from overseas took the matter up and emptied how account that very day.

He was so angry that he shouted at the tellers for attending to customers who were not on the queue becaise they were tipped.

This is just one of such many cases of the effects of tipping. People can become lawbreakers because they have been tipped.

Tipping Is Not Bad Anyway

Some of the tipping you give out has a way of coming back to play a role in your life, business, career or otherwise. Those who give out tips must have had some experiences that would not make the stop the habit.

One day, I traveled out of town for an important event and returned very late. When alighted at my bus stop, only the bad boys who were in town could be seen at strategic location. One of themnahowed up and saw me, that night when motorcycle that convey passengers were no where around, those guys just made a call and a motorcyclist appeared and took me home while the boys where hailing me. I didn't give them anything that night but I learned not to belittle them that day.

We can give a tip after someone has helped us carry out a task. It could be even in your office. As a boss, the clerk, receptionist or cleaners would find you amazing when you once in a while stretch out a hand of friendship to them.
Children in my street will always run to helpe with whatever I am carrying from work. Sometimes I would have to tell them that they cannot handle some heavy stuffs I am holding. Once in a while, I do give out a tip when they helped. I see it as a sign of honour that needed to be reciprocated.

The only reason why I think we should not give a tip is for any evil act.

In government parastatals, if you do not tip, your file will not move. In fact, your tip is the oil that moves your file or application for a project or anything at all. Let's get it right, tipping is part and parcel of our system, it has come to stay, let's use it to our advantage.

Tip is a good thing and regardless of if we get favour back or not, we should keep doing it.

Your experience with those area boys shows that anyone can be useful to us and we should always do good at all time.

Thats basically the importance of tips. In organisations, it could serve as morale to boost productivity. I feel like tips are more than inducement in some way , it helps individual feel appreciated for their efforts.
