Who's Responsible: The Car or the Driver?

I wouldn’t say I know much about cars but one thing I know for sure is that technology has advanced to a stage where we always get awed by the latest developments. Gone were the days when we used to think some cars were the deal but these days, we have a wide range of cars to choose from.

You might think I’m crazy but now, imagine ordering an Uber and your driver keeps choking you throughout your ride with stench and unnecessary talks when all you need is some peace and quiet. Let me not forget about reckless driving and trying to dodge traffic all the time . Now, also imagine your Uber being self driven with no stench, with peace and quiet, no reckless driving and also adherence to road rules. In an ideal world, I bet none of us would think twice about this because we would all opt in for the self driving car. Maybe you won’t but I have a feeling you will.

It’s unfortunate we are not in an ideal world so hey, snap back to reality. I’ve always complained about the roads in my community being in a deplorable state. Well, the latest update is that the government has come to smoothen the road since elections are closer. So, let’s use this latest smoothened road for our case study. If I had the money, I would obviously buy a self driving car all because of comfort, convenience and peace of mind. I don’t know how to drive so this would be a plus for me. I get to be a passenger princess without having to pay anyone to drive me around.

But, buying a self driving car would mean that I wouldn’t always want to commute on the current roads in my community. I’d have to resort to using the main roads which are in good shape so as to avoid any trouble such as accidents and many more. I’d like to believe that people with such cars always have to take precautions since these cars are more like AI because they run on that basis. Now, talking about accidents. In a case of an accident with a self driving car, who’s to blame for the accident?

We all know that these self driving cars operate on instructions which are being given to them and there’s no way they are going to go against them unlike us humans who do break rules sometimes. So, there’s a very low chance that a self driving car is going to get involved in accident due to reckless driving. But there’s a high chance that other factors would contribute to such cars getting into accidents. Some of these factors include glitches, system failures, mistakes from other drivers and many more. In such cases,we put the blame on the party responsible for the happening.

In a case where there’s a system failure we blame the company. In a case where a drunk driver come to crush into the self driving car we know who to blame. However , no one buys a car with the thought of being involved in an accident but things do happen. Personally, if I can afford it, I would obviously opt in for a self driving car as it’s more convenient and meets my demands.

Well, the trust is that, I’ll also like a self driven car for myself but not as an Uber. There are times drivers can compromise for their passagers but I doubt an AI would do that for its passanger

Also who will I gist with inside the car when I feel like talking. Ehnnn
Drives are not always meant to be quiet beside I can tell the driver I’m not in the mood for chitchat

Also, I have seen a drunk AI but not on earth tho

Self driven cars are machines, they can malfunction and breakdown at any given point.
