I always say and will continue to say that free will doesn’t exist in our part of the world. Oh no, let me put it in a better way, free will doesn’t exist in this life for some of us. Because there’s no way you will tell me that you will do whatever you want, however you want it without consequences. In this life, everything we do, whether good or bad has its consequences and we would eventually have to be accountable for our own actions.
From my point of view, free will is just a state of mind. For some, we have been made to believe that we have free will when in truth, we don’t have free will in a bit. One will argue that today, we live in a society where one is free to do whatever he wants but I tell you, you aren’t free to do whatever you want even if you’re given the chance to. And to add to that, even if you are given the chance to, as a reasoning human, your sense of reasoning or guilt, that’s if you have it won’t allow you do anything just because you want to.
Looking away from the human mind and human reasoning, let’s look into our own society and see if we actually have free will. In Ghana, we talk about having freedom of speech, freedom of this and that yet I remember vividly somewhere last year, the country was tough for everyone yet no one could even open their mouth to speak about these issues even though we claim to have freedom of speech. Moving away from that, let’s look at how civilians who came out to protest peacefully on the streets of our capital city during the end galamsey period got arrested, were sent to court and even spent some time in prison. And this all happened to people who came out to protest peacefully.
Free will is just a concept to make us believe we have the right to do stuff we want. If your own country could do this to you, where’s your free will. I believe only the rich have free will in todays world because they’re able to buy themselves out of any situation. Regular civilians like you and I cannot afford this luxury called free will because with every action comes consequences.
As an adult now, I know I am free to do a lot of thing I wish to cos I mean what’s the worst that could happen. But there are some places you’d never find me. Why? Because if anything should happen, how are you going to explain your way out of this situation? It’s always someone’s words against yours. And oh, I’m sorry for you if you’re a man and it’s a lady’s word against yours. You know how the story always ends in situations like this.
They tell us we have free will, yes we get that. But when the tables turn, that’s when you know there’s no such thing as free will. So, in everything you do, think twice and protect yourself cos your ‘free will’ won’t save you.

Well you are actually correct and this is what I think that everyone is having freedom to do work until they are not on the wrong path of their work.
You’re right.
Freedom is a very broad word, which covers different aspects of the human being. The important thing is to enjoy it and live, everyone in their own way.
I agree with you. We can’t have it all, but we can at least enjoy what we have now.
