Not all peer pressures are negative. Leaving my comfort zone for good in some certain things was due to pressure I received from my peers; however, I wouldn't overlook the fact that a lot of people have also regretted their actions for getting themselves influenced by their peers.
Most of our parents never saw the positive aspect of peer pressure but only the negative, and so they are always warning us against our peers so we don't get misled.
Interestingly, some peer pressure can serve as a motivation and even help push us to better personal growth. I think this is more reason why we should always be intentional with the kind of people we move along with. Having said that, I will share with you instances where peer pressure has been a good thing for me.
When did you last try new recipes for dinner, Nkem? Amiable asked on one Sunday afternoon we had a physical chat with Flora at the mall. I was like, New recipes? Which one exactly? She said maybe couscous or many other meals aside from our usual African delicacies. I almost told her to close the chapter with the excuse that my husband doesn't like any other meal except our African delicacies. Meanwhile, it's me who never saw any reason to try new recipes at home but the usual rice and fufu, etc.. hehehe. My friends talked to me that day as if I was old school after my response to the question. They were like, How do you spice up home through your kitchen? You can't continue to be serving your family the same kind of meals year to year. Try something new, Nkem, spice up things, make your home lively, and even your kids and hubby will feel you.
I returned home that night reflecting on those statements by my peers, and then my mind flashed back to one of the statements my husband made last time, and he said, Can't you be making some of these meals they sell at big restaurants here in Lagos? I still remembered my response to him on that day, which was,Does my kitchen look like Mega Chicken restaurant to you? Hahaha, we only laughed about it, and he didn't mention it again; however, I didn't know that he has always craved varieties of other kinds of meals at home aside our usuals.
After this reflection, I visited a friend of mine who is into catering, and she taught me some new recipes. I also visited YouTube to learn a few, and one day, I tried one, and it came out very nice. My husband returned home and met a new delicacy at the dining table. The first question he asked was so baffling, lolz. He said, Did you guys bring food from a party, or did you buy my food from a restaurant? On my...I was almost ashamed of myself for staying so long before trying varieties in my home, but it's fine that I was ready to bring in a good change through my kitchen. I explained, and the rest was a story. He loved it, and since then, this aspect of my home has even spiced up my marriage. I can't forget in a hurry how my peer was a good influence in this aspect of my life.
Also, I never believed that one could actually be financially stable to some extent through online business until I kept seeing some of my peers daily hustling online with so much evidence of their results. Directly or indirectly, I was influenced and was forced to contact one of them in real estate, who guided me rightly and motivated me to keep pushing, whether sell or no sell, in some months. Today, I have never regretted this particular influence to date, looking back at my journey so far.
The whole experience taught me that sometimes, the pressure we receive from our peers can help us discover a hidden potential in us and can also push one towards personal growth.
This is my response to the #HiveLearners community contest on the topic titled, The Good Pressure.

Let settle on this diverse delicacy thing....
As ugly as it may sound, most of us are rotating just few food and it's so tiring if one thinks of it.
Last week, I heard a woman, a married woman lamenting on this act of rotating just five soups and she doesn't know how to go about it....to try other things because she's tired. A lady nearby suggested soups that are not so common and she was kicking against the suggestions 😅 because she doesn't like the soups.
Most times, trying out new things can be difficult but we just have to try and spread
Sometimes it's laziness and we need someone to tell us the truth
Good enough mine was a positive influence
Indeed you could take the advantage of peer pressure. I think it's happened because of your positive mindset. You could be influenced negatively for the same reason if you didn't have a positive mindset. It's good to know that it helped you to be better you.

Exactly 💯..I think our mindset matters a lot when dealing with peers so we filter the good from the bad
You have taken it a positive and that helps you to show your hidden challenge. Indeed in this way it was it created a positive impact in your life and it also shows that you have a positive mindset.

I think I need to meet these your friends cos I only eat one kind of food.😂 At this rate if I should marry now, my husband will not eat my food again.
Sometimes change comes from many angles and it’s good to have friends who will direct you to this change.
Hahaha 🤣🤣🤣🤣....better don't be like me oo 😂
I tell you...changes comes sometimes from people we don't expect it from
