Agricultural Advances vs. Health Risks: Where Do We Stand?

in Hive Learners2 days ago

In the agricultural sector, revolution has taken over, and that's evidence of technology, which in turn has increased food production levels to meet up with the demands considering the world's population. No doubt, technology has made farming easier and more efficient. There are now lots of farming tools and machines mostly used for commercial farming, making both cultivation and harvesting less tedious.

This is a good development we have come to embrace. However, there's concern with the technological advancement in this same agricultural sector, and that's the use of chemicals by the farmers to grow the crops for fast germination and quick harvest. No wonder it's no longer possible for us to have our raw food stay longer before spoiling.

It's surprising how even some cooked food spoils so quickly these days, unlike before, but the reason is not far-fetched. Imagine food planted with so many chemical effects, there's no way it can stay longer than the ones without those chemicals.Back in the day, our forefathers enjoyed more natural food than we do today. Even though the farming process was more tedious, they didn't have or use any chemicals for their food, and so they were sure of what they consumed.

Come to think of it, why is it that some terrible sicknesses we have today, like cancer and the rest, didn't exist during the time of our forefathers? I still believe to a larger extent that the effects of these chemicals we are indirectly consuming through our food are a great factor contributing to some of the sicknesses in our world today.

The food we have available today is not as it used to be. The other day, I bought veggies like carrots, green beans and the rest and the plan was to use them in the next two days to prepare fried rice. Sadly, I was disappointed at how everything rotted within 48 hours. I am not the only one complaining about this mess nowadays, and that's to tell you that almost everything we are consuming in the name of food is like poison.

Even the water they call treated, hmmm, if I tell you the amount of chemicals that passed through this water, you will be amazed. That's horrible, and we are stuck; our health is at risk, and I don't know the name of the sickness we might start hearing again in the years to come. Well, we can try to avoid whatever we can avoid; if not, we deal with it to the detriment of our life span.

It would have been great if farmers only made use of the technological machines for faster productivity without the use of chemicals, but sadly, humans and their greedy nature wouldn't allow such. No one cares; it's about our pockets, overlooking the negative effects on our health.

If there are sectors the government should pay close attention to, then the agricultural sector is one of them due to the health implications those chemicals pose on humans, but then they wouldn't do the needful but rather keep chasing what I don't know.

Overall, most of these things our modern farmers do to get more yield end up making the food less nutritional, and I believe that it's something that can be fixed with the help of our leaders, and individually, we can also try growing some food or veggies to reduce the rate at which we consume those produced with the help of chemicals.

I think if we follow the organic way of farming many of us will end up dying for the hungriness. Traditional ways may not meet the demands of people. Again you need chemicals to protect the harvest from harmful insects. I think the fault is ours because many of us use excess chemicals without knowing about it. Chemicals are for our good but it can be bad how we use it.

That's another viewpoint...I understand that there are chemicals to kill insects and using it appropriately will be great...also what about the use of chemicals to fasten the harvesting time of plants?

what about the use of chemicals to fasten the harvesting time of plants?

It's can be good and bad depending what method they use. Some method are harmful where some are harmless.

Hmm, may God have mercy on us. Farmers of today are more concerned about making profit than healthy living

It's what it is..but we can do our part even in a simple way

Lets just use the machine and leave the chemicals but no way , we want everything fast fast to the detriment of our health

I am telling you...humans will be humans

The agricultural sector is filled with greedy people who simply want to make money. They'll only invest their time and money into that. They care about volume than quality. And as a result, we'd keep suffering.

Yea...that's humans and their greedy nature . It makes more sense if we begin to be intentional about our health no matter how much money in the line

This is very correct ma. You hit the nail real hard on the head.

Even poultry rearers feed their chickens with chemicalized food that in two months, baby chicks can now be sold and eaten. Something that should take six to eight months.

May God help us

 yesterday

Exactly...I ate chicken two days ago at ShopRite and I was forced to ask the attendant weather it's chicken she actually served my friend and I

It was too soft and tasteless... obviously not a naturally matured chicken

Exactly ooo

 yesterday

Our forefathers knew what they ate and that kept them healthy till the old age.

That's right.. unfortunately it's different now
