While gambling or betting have been a source of entertainment and relaxation for some people, we shouldn't overlook the fact that it has often led many into addiction, thereby causing them to lose their life savings, their hard-earned money, incur debts, and affect their mental health, leading to an increased crime rate from addicted gamblers and many more of its negative effects.

For every one winner, there are thousands of losers. The real loss is not the money they stake; it is the laziness and illusive mindset some gamblers develop. Even the ones that eventually win end up losing it in most cases. This is because, when they play today and win, they will be motivated to invest more money tomorrow, hoping for another round of wins. In most cases when they lose, they will keep trying, expecting a bigger win someday, probably to experience a financial turnaround overnight.
For whatever reasons people engage in gambling, I see it as a habit that has proven to be too difficult to control for some people who consistently play the game, and that could negatively affect their lives because getting addicted to it is very simple and an unhealthy lifestyle.
Gambling is also a recipe for crime. Betting and gambling kill productivity and entrepreneurship. It is also a very bad pathway for the younger generation, and more reason why I am of the opinion that it should be illegal. Imagine a young guy around my vicinity who was into making hair for ladies before; he stopped the amazing skill he had got because of one-time profit he gambled and earned one million naira. The high money he got from gambling quickly influenced his decision; he was like, Why stress himself standing up for hours making hair and wigs when he can simply earn big money without stress through gambling? That was it; this young guy closed down his shop and entered fully into gambling.
Obviously, he added more of his money, hoping to win a jackpot, but that never happened. His life currently has been smoking and duping people; he has gotten so weak, maybe due to excessive alcohol and hard drugs he engaged in while on gambling business, but I see a guy wasting his one-time good skill and bright future he had all because of gambling.
If gambling is made illegal, people might still find a way of doing it secretly, but maybe the rate at which many people jump into it will be reduced. Now if gambling or betting is made legal and maybe put some control measures and discipline, how many people will be disciplined enough? That's the challenge... greediness has taken over the lives of many people, and they obviously don't know when to draw the line.

In conclusion, there's no doubt that betting and gambling have the ability to make people millionaires overnight, but then they destroy lives more than they help. It's a pure recipe for crime. Encouraging laziness and an illusive mindset, killing productivity and entrepreneurship. Definitely a bad pathway for the younger entrepreneur, and that's why my opinion is a big YES! It should be ILLEGAL.

Great points on why gambling should be banned.
But I also think with or without gambling, some of our youths are lazy.
That guy in your area just lacked common sense. He should've used some part of the money to invest in his business then use the rest to continue betting if he wanted.
And like you said, it has made people rich and also made some loose all they have, but at the end of the day they weren't forced to play. They read and understood the rules and still decided to jump into it.
Like me I've read the rules and I know I can't afford to loose my little penny , so I'd rather use my money to buy ice-cream than gamble with it. My point is nobody will come to my house and force me to gamble so why make it illegal?
Making it illegal could be a way to curtail the excesses, I think
There are still people who gamble with their senses while many are being affected greatly
It's a matter of weighing the pros and the cons for the good of the society
Truly right sis. Even if they make gambling illegal, the smart ones will still look 👀 for a way
Happy weekend 😍❤️
Of course they will still be doing dark things in the background
Haha 😆 Its a serious issue sis. We pray God to save our people 😍
It's your first paragraph for me....
Gambling world is no different from the Ponzi world. Using other people's money to pay a few winners 😅.
But the sermon of gambling has been preached enough to the ears of any adult. It's just like sin. Sin is free to be engaged with😅
Hahaha 🤣🤣🤣
Sin is really a free commitment...it's ur choice
How I love this ur example..lol
I think trying to get rich by gambling can be a reason for living poor life. It's the reality but gamblers are not ready to accept it.
haha then should we ban tiktok too (some places already do). it's destroying people's brain cells and people also can be millionaires and some try to be famous and make it but only few actually get there :'). oh and let's add the crazy shit people do to get views. Some of that stuff is dangerous.
anyways my point is. It's an issue of discipline. The core of gambling is actually not a bad thing. it's people that have an addiction and that can apply to many things like drugs, alcohol etc which is why I don't think gambling is fine staying legal.
What I think needs to be done is focus on education. making sure more people are educated and making a better income so they dont feel pressured to have to gamble to get out of their poor life. Usually these are the type of people that buy lottery tickets and do gambling. if people already have money well they just do it for entertainments sakes. i could be wrong though ;d
