The world we live in today has continued to advance with the rapid growth of tech and artificial intelligence, which we see today. It's no longer news that this advancement is posing a threat to some job opportunities that humans occupy. It becomes important that learners stay intentional while choosing their courses of study in colleges and universities going forward.
I agree to some extent that AI won't totally replace humans in all sectors, but with what we have today, AI is going to outperform humans in different sectors as we keep going. This is why in this post, I will mention some courses that seem irrelevant to spend years of study in the university, at least in my country, Nigeria.
Even before technology and artificial intelligence started taking over the workforce, most of the so-called professional courses in my country have proven hard to secure jobs with after spending years in the university, except you have one godfather in the government. This is why you see a biochemist teaching in the secondary schools, among other professionals. People here hardly practice what they studied in school due to the level of unemployment in our country. Now imagine our world with AI in full force; no one should be told to stick with courses or skills that are likely not going to be overtaken completely by AI.
Courses like Secretarial Studies are one of those courses that are no longer needed with this current tech and AI advancement. My younger sister studied this course at the university for four years, and I was asking her the other day her plan for the future due to the way our world kept evolving with technology. The truth is that this course is about office administration, whereby the secretary schedules an appointment with the client, enters some data, and keeps records. Now, you and I know well that AI can do this job better and more accurately. So to remain relevant in a tech-driven world, it's better to embrace it—better say upgrade software skills for someone who did this course and of course , not a good entry for someone who is still considering a course to choose talking about the future and AI.
Another course that wouldn't be needed anymore is agriculture or agri economist, just like a close friend of mine did and is now selling human hair. Look at how the agricultural sector is becoming easier with technology. Obviously, this course is a no-no, less relevant to consider going forward. Whatever humans can do manually to increase agricultural productivity, definitely AI can do it double, so there wouldn't be any need for manual labor in this regard, so what's the point of spending years in the university studying agriculture?
What about marketing? Gone are the days when people should consider this course of study, please, because digital and data-driven marketing is all over the net, doing diligent work around marketing with the use of social media. So you see, the course is becoming less relevant nowadays.
There are other courses in this category, and while we can't stop this tech advancement, we can do well to channel our energy into skills related to technology so we can remain relevant in our own world no matter how much we experience advancement.
In summary, technology will keep advancing, rendering many courses and jobs irrelevant. What we just need to do is simply go with the flow.

In our part of the world, university degree is not means to be practiced but to escape the lines of poverty. As stated in this work, what's the relevance of studying agricultural science and lobbying for a bank job.
It's what it is...the main thing is securing financial freedom at the end of the day
Omo...
I don't think anything that has to do with agriculture will ever go extinct ooo.😏
Just that getting the job may be hard. However, no matter how advanced tech gets, we'll still need to farm food and that's the basics of agriculture.😇
That's true...the worst that will happen is reduced human employment in this sector
currently one need to top up on there games seriously there is need to study courses that is related to technology that is the only way one can still remain in the market space.
I can't agree less with you
Thank you Cindy for visiting
I think agriculture is one sector that won't fade away even with the advancement of technology, instead it will make the work less stressful and a lot easier. I personally know people that are thriving in the agriculture sector with the use of advanced technology.
Most people in our country just study this courses just to fulfill all righteous, the university isn't giving people the courses they applied for.
In all I enjoyed reading this 👍
Well..I am thinking so with you now, maybe not many people will be needed due to tech tools available
Secretarial Studies, hum!!! I have no knowledge about the sector. In case of agricultural economist I can agree with you too. I don't know what to say more as I am not so knowledgeable in both sector you mentioned.
Hehehe 😃😃
I understand Intishar and I do appreciate your feedback too 🤗
I don't think agriculture can lose it's relevance as a course. There is the area of continuous research and development in agriculture, and AI can't take over this role.
O think ai can take over to some an extent but not completely so human efforts will still be needed but not much people
