Safeguarding Players in the World of Contact Sports

in Hive Learners3 days ago

Sports are fun and entertaining! Even most of us who lack the skill to play some of these sports find it entertaining to watch and create nice memories and be happy. Although it's fun, I wouldn't overlook the dangers associated with some sports, especially contact sports, which require continuous contact with the opposite players and, in some cases, lead to major injuries.

This is because sports is filled with emotions; each individual or team will be willing to do anything just to see themselves or their team come out victorious. Sometimes, they go against the rules of the sport on the quest to win. Sometimes again, the injury happens involuntary and can't just be controlled; thus, it becomes a concern to most people, and they question if further regulations should be put in place to make it safer, or is it all as good as they are currently!

To start with, one of the reasons why I don't watch boxing is because of how raw the game is. How often those players inflict pain among each other. I used to think that it was faked, not until I realized that they were all raw games and I stopped watching boxing. Like, how on earth should people be inflicting so much pain on another just to win a game? This sport seems entertaining to many people, but unfortunately not to me anymore. And from what I know, those people who find boxing entertaining said that without those hits and without feeling the intensity and physical challenge in the game, the game will become boring, so you see, regulating it further might make this one boring and less interesting, as even it will likely look less competitive.

Unlike boxing, I find watching football so much fun and exciting. I think the level of contact on this one isn't much severe like boxing, although injuries are also sustained. I feel it's just inevitable to escape being injured with contact sports, and at the same time, it's entertaining watching the players struggle with all their energies to emerge victorious. However, I think the regulations already put in place look good the way they are; otherwise, the game will be boring, and many people wouldn't find it interesting to keep watching anymore.

So I think...

Instead of further regulations, players should be made to strictly adhere to the rules of the sport or face the consequences. Also, taking advantage of this advancement in technology seems great in terms of the strict use of modern protective clothing that should protect every part of the body that needs to be guarded. With this, the level of injuries sustained by the players will be curtailed drastically.

Finally, parents should ensure that their kids who show interest in this kind of contact sports are of age enough to face the whole intensity that comes with it. The case of health is always a priority during each sport activity, and I hope players should always endeavor to check their health and assert how sound they are before embarking on the sports.

This is my response to the #hivelearners community contest on the topic titled, Contact Sport.

As in ehn... Boxing and UFC, those are aggressive contact sports. Before you allow your kid go in there, you better know what they're going into. Omo...😤

Of course, some people just embark on this sports due to the money involved without looking at other considerations for safety purposes

I dislike watching boxing for similar reasons as yours. I can't derive satisfaction in watching one person dehumanize another in the name of game. I am okay with ball games.

I use to think that all guys love boxing 🥊

Sometimes the rules in football too need to be reviewed since the advent of Video assistant referee judgment on players gradually makes the whole game look suspicious to a particular team. There are lots of contacts but it can not be compared with boxing and others.

Yea... there are contacts in football too, if only players will stick with the rules

Football is ok to me but I don't like boxing. Moreover, I feel that the boxing matches we see on TV are mostly scripted. I can't find the logic of how they can stand up each time after being beaten so hard. Do they have any kind of superpower?

Wrestling is one which I guess has the highest level of contacts and is very dangerous.
And yes putting regulations also means that their will not be any fun in same.
I better to avoid watching not my taste.
