On the other hand, the government has supporters who come from influencers and artists. There was chaos on social media. A narrative war between those who agree with the law and those who oppose it.
I, as an ordinary person, am quite familiar with the news. If I'm not mistaken, this incident happened for almost a week. The impact was that internet access was turned off by the government. WhatsApp could not be used. Internet access was very slow and others. Things that dream of the internet were difficult to access. I also had difficulty working at that time. Communication was diverted using telegram, discord and others. A number of mass coordinators, WhatsApp directly. Very chaotic. On social media and offline. Several places stopped because of the demonstration.
For Papua, I did not experience it directly. Some friends said, the same thing was felt when the incident occurred in Jakarta. The issue of Papua is very sensitive. Including the division of Papua against Indonesia which was again hot at that time. What do I think about this? Technology is getting more sophisticated and information is spreading very quickly.
With the internet access being turned off, for me this is very exciting. There are many people who use the internet, apart from the people who are demonstrating. The internet has become something close. Starting from payments, using internet banking. Watching television using the internet and many others. The chaos of social media does not mean that the internet should be limited. Content that needs to be limited. I feel disadvantaged. At the same time, I can't work.
For me, the internet is something close to the community. So, limiting internet access is a violation committed by the government just to minimize the narrative that is not getting more chaotic. Currently, the government is also using influencers to receive positive narratives from the community. Is the narrative a lie? Often the narrative is not quite right.
