ALMOST OVERDOSED

Drugs, I have had lots of experience with these chemical substances - I have got the good, the bad and even, the ugly experience with drugs. The use of unprescribed drugs tend to have a serious adverse effect to the user.

Drugs are like a two edged sword, they can be poisonous and toxic and also, they can be helpful as well, all depending on wether or not it was prescribed to the end user.

Before I became a qualified medical practitioner, I made a handful of mistakes with medications. Some worked, but the results that I obtained from some is something else.

It is said, and have been proven that self medication has a very bad effect when practiced. What if I tell you that nurses and other medical professionals are part of the people to practice self medication. However, the difference is that, we, nurses, know the pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics and pharmacometrics of the medication, thus, we understand is effects and benefits and also, the mode of action, therefore, we tend to be more careful and more accurate when indulging in such act.

Over the years, I've got good and bad experiences with drugs. Drug addicts see drugs as sweet, but I see drugs as poison.

Some months ago, I talked about my school experience, where my colleague gradually became addicted to a drug. In the course of trying to convince him to leave that lifestyle, I almost fell victim to that drug. Nearly overdosed.

I once lived a life of doing drugs, smoking, drinking and all those bullshit, so, I overdosed on confidence, thinking that even if i take four ampoules of the drug he do take, I will still be perfectly fine, not knowing that i was in for a surprise.

I tried everything I could to stop my friend from being an addict. I talked, and talked, and talked but it seemed like I was pouring my precious juice on a rock. It was quite disappointing ya'know but I refused to give up. He is my friend. Sometimes, if I see him with an ampoule of that drug, I will collect it from him and break it. It causes problems, but then, I'd rather have issues with my friend than to lose him to addiction.

One day, I saw him taking the drug, IM/ IV pentazocine. I was annoyed, but then, instead of wrestling the ampoule from his hand, I decided to take another approach.

When he saw me, he immediately hid the drug and syringe but I told him not to worry, I already saw what he was holding. I gave him some money to buy a few more ampoule which he happily did.

I told him that I lived the life of drugs and I know too well that it is not worth it. I was preaching while I prepare the drug.

He do take 1 ampoule but I told him that I will take three. I did this to let him know that I've been in the game, but it's nothing to brag about and it's equally not worth doing again.

3 ampoules drawn inside a syringe and ready to be injected to my Intra Muscularly. He tried to talk me out of it, but I insisted, so, he administered it.

After injecting it, I continued the preaching. He was really surprised to see me take three. It seemed like my preaching was getting across this time, and I was really happy. After he took his own shot, I continued to preach, until the drug started acting.

Now, here is the thing, I have never taken Penta before. So, this was the first time I introduced it to my body. Instead of a normal dose, I introduced a high dosed. Thankfully, I have food in my stomach but then, the effects was still high.

I began to feel the effects. I was really high and feeling dizzy but I could not sleep. Normally, of you feel dizzy and close your eyes, the dizziness will fade. But, that was not the case, if I closed my eye, it was as if my eyes were turning inside my closed eyelid. My brain was active, but my body was at a sorry state. I could stand, but it felt like I the ground where I stood was sliding. My muscles became weak, and I could hardly control them. Thankfully, intestinal motility was not inhibited, so I could eat more cause my stomach felt empty all of a sudden.

I immediately dragged myself straight to the pot and began to devour the food there. It was a good thing that my friend was not there to see me. I ate all the food and continued with garri. I added lots of sugar, milk and plenty water. After I finished the garri, I began to take frequent sips of water. That day, I was friend with the restroom as I micturated a lot. Still, I could not sleep.

After doing all these, I decided to lye down and relax while I allowed my body to fight the battle by itself. This thing happened in the afternoon, but I got myself in the night. All through, I was not able to sleep.

When I got myself a little, I decided to go out for a walk to stimulate my muscles and increase metabolism.

Funny, nobody knew what I was passing through. I refused to tell them because I did not want my friend, the one who was suffering from addiction, to know.

Thankfully, after that event, though he did not stop being addicted, but the extent of addiction reduced greatly. I don't know wether or not he has stopped or continued with being addicted, but I'm glad my message went across.

Addiction is a bad thing. I once had an addict as a friend, too, and I knew how crazy they go when they don't get the drugs they are used to. Just as you said drugs are lime an edged sword, the result might be shocking at times that's why an overdose is never an option
