Hello, everyone.
Welcome to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learners' featured post. It is that time of the year where we get to enjoy merriment and have fun, that season of the year where we get to meet family and friends and make memories that will live on even after we are gone. Christmas is in the air; if you have not been told, then the weather and atmospheric condition must have made it known to you that Christmas celebration is just around the corner. Many people have already been given time off from their jobs, while some are still working and hoping that Christmas comes faster so they can also be given a break to relax and cool off as their energy recuperates and they prepare to face the new year.
Back then, as a high school student, my holiday would have started at the latest by 20th December, but now as a college student, my school waits until 23rd December before they let us go home, and clearly the holiday won't be a long one as they are rushing to meet up with the school calendar as a result of the shutdown that happened earlier this year, so I think I would have a maximum of 14 days or less to rest while my energy recuperates to come back and continue with the stress and overwork.
I enjoyed Christmas as a child more than now; back then you got all you needed without spending any money and with no one expecting anything from you, but now as a grown-up you get to spend to make it more memorable as well as do certain things to support and see that the Christmas celebration is a success. Sometimes reminiscing about Christmas to the time we were little, I wish we did not have to become grown-ups, but that is not even possible; we just have to grow up and help in any way we can.
There are also people who, because of the nature of their jobs, will not the opportunity to spend some quality time with family and friends. There are people who work year in and year out, people who have little or no time to spend with family; such a job is actually bad for family bonding. We also have people who the only time they get to spend with their family is the Christmas holiday; now they look forward to this season more than every other person. We are in a technological world, and many of us now juggle both online and offline jobs. We can take a break from offline jobs, but online jobs give them little to no break.
My plans for the holiday is to spend it in my hometown with my family and a few friends. For me, my holiday starts on the 23rd; by then I would have attended to all that needs my attention, but since I juggle both online and offline jobs, I only take a break from offline jobs. We have quite a big traditional celebration coming up during the festive season, so it is going to be fun all through. We have a group of elderly people that will be celebrated as they retire from engaging in certain activities in the community. It is one of the very few traditions from time immemorial that my people still practice, and some of the ways we still get to experience culture and tradition as Christianity and technology, have caused a lot of other traditional practices to become a thing of the past.
Where are you from and which tradition exactly??
I am from Abia state bro. Why you asking!
was wondering the BIG tradition that's coming
It is called igba uche also known as traditional retirement, it is one of the few traditional celebration that still holds in my hometown.
This is why I don't really miss my days in school, those creepy lecturers and their grumpy faces always trying to squeeze out every bit of relaxation time a student could ever have. It is always about the academic calendar but I wonder have that is the fault of the students.
Some lecturers make it look like we don't have a life to live, just school and school and school nothing else.
