The cost of living wants to kill the living.

Hello, everyone.

Welcome to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learner's featured post. The days when one could easily afford whatever they wanted and eat whatever they wanted are now a thing of the past, as the cost of living is steadily on the rise, making everything look like luxury. Now, when you go to the market and you are told the price of goods, you are left wondering how we got here, and you are forced to reminisce on the price it was before the very high price that it is today.

Almost in every gathering of Nigerians, they must reminisce on the good old days, the days when we were able to differentiate between luxury and simple living; today it is impossible to actually do that since the price of everything is now very expensive and looks like luxury even though it is not. The days where one can comfortably afford basic needs without breaking the bank, the world we live in today, both basic needs and being extravagant, will require you to break the bank. The other day on X, a user complained about how much a crate of eggs cost, and someone responded saying that eating eggs is a luxurious lifestyle, and if one cannot afford it, they should not buy it, and that left me wondering when eggs became a luxury too.

No doubt that the prices of goods and services have been steadily on the rise, but ever since the current president took over power, it got even worse. The prices of goods only increased by a few percentages before the current president, but the current president caused the prices of everything to skyrocket and increase by over 100 percent, which has pushed a lot of people into frustration and depression. A lot of people are no longer able to afford three square meals; those who manage to can no longer prepare a meal up to the standard they want or used to before these hard times befell us.

One thing I have come to realize is that since time immemorial, the price of goods and services only gets to experience inflation but never experience deflation. The price of goods and services in this country only follows one trend, which is quite contrary to what we were taught in economics, but it is the country that we have found ourselves in, and we have to find a way to stay afloat. The country leaves us no choice other than to look for ways to survive.

The current cost of living in my area is outrageous; we never thought a day would come where we would spend three times the amount of money we were spending in the past to purchase the same thing or even less. Those days a paint of rice cost 3,000 naira, but today we spend 9,500 naira for the same quantity of rice. The cost of transportation also skyrocketed, and thinking about it can cause one to have a headache.

Will changing location change the story?

High cost of living is currently a nationwide problem, if not a global one, so leaving Abia State to another state will not offer any solution to the problem. One of the ways to actually handle the current situation on the ground is to avoid unnecessary expenses, like cutting down on expenses drastically, only buying what you need, and in the case of transportation, only boarding a bus for distances you feel you cannot cover on foot.

As in that inflation is really hitting everywhere in the federation. It's so disheartening and those in government aren't doing anything about it.

No state or city is safe, inflation is a nationwide problem..

Change of location won't change the situation. I Concord with you is a national matter.

I scream when I was told half crate of egg is #3,000. I bought it with me hissing and I have decided that this must last me a month and few days oo 🤣🤣 after this, I don't think I will buy any until I am fully able to go for it. Everything is luxury now oo.

Egg has really become luxury 😂, it must last one month and more oo.

It is concerning to see how something essential, like food, has come to be considered a luxury. We hope that effective measures are taken to alleviate this crisis and bring some stability to the population

We are all just hoping that measures are taken because slowly things are getting out of hands.
