Good day, people of Hive! Welcome to my blog. Today's topic is: "A Code I Live By". But first, what does a code mean? A code is just a way of saying the rules or values someone tries to follow in their life. It’s like having your own set of guidelines to decide how you want to act and treat people.

We all have certain beliefs or principles that guide how we act and treat others maybe it's about being honest, loyal, or fair. For me, my code is simple: "Treat others the way I want to be treated". This principle keeps me aware of how my actions affect others and reminds me to put myself in their shoes. If I wouldn’t like being treated a certain way, I make sure not to treat others that way either. To me, if I treated others poorly, I’d be a hypocrite and that goes against my values. This code helps me stay calm and considerate, even when things get tough.

How did I come up with this code?

Through experience! I've seen how kindness and respect can turn strangers into friends, and how a lack of it can damage relationships. For example, if someone makes a mistake, instead of me getting angry at the person, I think about the times I also made mistakes, how others don't get angry at me most of the time, and how patient they are with me because of my mistakes. Though it’s not always easy to follow, especially when I’m tired, stressed, or feeling hurt. But remembering this code gives me something to fall back on and makes me feel good about the person I’m becoming.

Let me share a story. A friend of mine was going through a tough time with her school fees. Her family had to pay for her siblings’ fees first, and she was feeling the pressure. When I tried to talk to her, she snapped at me, and at first, I felt hurt. But instead of reacting, I remembered my code. I reminded myself that she was going through something difficult. She didn’t need someone to fight back; she just needed patience and understanding.

Why this code matters

This principle doesn’t just keep me calm; it gives me a sense of purpose. It’s a reminder of the person I want to be, even in hard situations. It helps me build stronger relationships and stay grounded in my values.Living by this code is like having a guide that reminds me to stay true to who I am and to approach others with empathy and understanding, which is something I'm always striving for.

In conclusion, having a personal code whether it’s about being honest, loyal, or kind is like having a steady guide in life. For me, living by the rule of treating others as I’d like to be treated helps me feel proud of who I’m becoming. It's a simple code, but one that makes life a little better for everyone around me.

I think that codes are mainly a matter of ethics, of principles, as far as I am concerned, I follow them but when they are really things that are my foundations, that are things of life.
