8 good years of staying in Lagos without learning the language? How have you been coping here really? I live in Lagos and people just assume everyone understands Yoruba. I'm not Yoruba but I now speak the language as if I am a confirmed Yoruba girl. If there's a language I'd like to understand, it's definitely Spanish.
