This is the reason democracy is not working in my country, as mentioned in the narration

Jeopardizing the citizens' democratic intentions I used this phrase to describe the anti-democratic demonstration in our country, Nigeria, as being unfair and unjust towards the citizens and they deserve to be addressed this way because of their actions, standards, behaviors, and rules to thwart the ambition of the citizens within the democratic sphere. If we have some Nigerians who are unfair to the democratic system, then we will have unfair leaders ruling us and making decisions that would ruin the citizen's intentions in the democratic cycle.

Citizens are the bonafide members of the democratic society, in which we have the legitimate right to choose who will lead effectively. And this is the country we are, after insinuating who will take the lead of our country the way we should have intended. However, spending our time and energy exercising our rights in the polling unit. Here, we have successfully chosen our leader and they have gone to the other room with the mindset of bribing our chosen and putting on the unknown will for governance.

At least, for the first time, I cast my vote in the polling unit. It was a nice experience, no doubt. I did exactly what others were doing, and while some people were trying to distract my attention from doing what was on my mind, I did it successfully. I waited until the end of the voting, and we knew who won the presidency and governor in my unit, and it went around through other units. The results were published on social media for visibility and affirmation.

In Akwa Ibom State, it was fair and well counted because we went for our own, and they position the one we chose and we have seen better results unfolding for the benefit of the Akwa Ibomites; we are enjoying the peace and serenity of Akwa Ibom State. No war, no shedding of innocent blood, and no running of helter-skelter.

In what ways are the people frustrated by their leaders from exercising their rights to choose their leaders

Compulsion

Source

People are forced to vote against their will. While I was in the polling unit, I saw young people who went around elderly people, whispering to their ears to vote for the so-so person but they were caught in the process. This should be avoided in the voting unit.

Violence

Gone are the days, when people used guns, matches, and other violent tools to threaten voters to take part in the electoral process. I could recall that when this violent art was carried out, people died, and some got injured in the process. It wasn't right all the time. People were frustrated with their voting intentions.

False propaganda

I can still recall this topic in my secondary days.
This is where false information is dissimilated to pull a crowd of voters, and after the election is won, they will not remember those promises again. This is how people are deceived, misled, and frustrated.

Bribery/corruption

This is the core theme or outstanding slogan in Nigeria. People in other countries know Nigerians to be thieves. The bribe for the position of president and other prominent seats, just to be in power.

All these practices should be eliminated for a fair election in Nigeria and other countries.

What changes do you feel must be implemented to make everyone's voices be heard?

Transparency in a fair election

This is one of the things, I feel should be implemented for the genuine purpose of governance to take place in Nigeria. By implementing this, people's voices will be heard. And there will be peace and good leadership skills will evolve for the betterment of the citizens. At least people will not suffer the way it is in our country. Decisions will be made and taken into consideration for the growth of the society.
