A Game of Whot

Back when we were kids, my dad would always tell us not to tell our plans to anyone until we were done executing the plans and everything were the way we wanted it to be...basically saying to let our work speak for itself.

At first, I couldn't quite understand his reasons for that, but then I eventually felt it was because they were a lot of witches and wizards all over the place, waiting to destroy our plans the moment we said it out loud. I was a kid then so don't judge me.

Years went by and I always lived by that rule, not telling anyone my plans. Even when I had to travel back home from school, I would wait a day before I would travel to tell my friends that I was traveling, that way I felt they wouldn't be able to do anything spiritually to me to stop that journey from being a success or to cause an accident.

Anyways, something happened today that kinda reminded me why most times, it's never a good idea to tell people your plans. You see, my friends and I were playing a game of WHOT and amongst the four of us playing, I was the only one who didn't have a score yet. The rest of them had won more than once except me and we've been playing for a long time so I was starting to get tired.

But rather than just quit the game like I normally would at times like this, I was determined to get at least one score before leaving, so I had made the mistake of telling them my intentions.. I had told them that I wasn't going to leave until I got at least one score and they too had jokingly vowed to make sure I never got to one.

After we were done laughing about what they said, I quickly remembered the words of my father and realized that I had made a huge mistake. Now that they knew my plan, they were going to do everything in their power to stop it, a situation I wouldn't have found myself in if only I had kept my mouth shut.

Luckily for me, that was only a game of Whot and nothing serious. And although I knew my friends were joking when they said what they said about stopping me, that entire situation sometimes happens in real life, people trying to ruin your goal the moment they find out about it.

This is why we have to be careful who we talk to and what we say to them.
