Sometimes, there are certain things that happens to us in our lives that we attribute to luck, when in reality, it wasn't entirely luck but us just being prepared for that thing to happen.
Earlier today I was talking to a friend of mine about our National Service, a program that every graduate has to go through for a year to be considered a complete graduate.
I had asked him when he plans on going for his and he had looked at me and told me that currently, he doesn't see the need for it and would only go for the program when there's a need for it.
I felt a bit disappointed when I heard him say that because if there's one thing I know for sure, it is that there's nothing as good as being prepared for opportunities that isn't even here yet, because the moment it comes, you find yourself doing extremely well at it because you were prepared for it.
The statement that friend of mine had made was basically him saying that he wouldn't go for the program unless there was a job waiting for him that required him to then go for the program...a very stupid mentality because no company will wait a whole year for you to be done with national service so that they could employ you, when there are thousands of qualified unemployed graduates out there who already finished the program and desperate for the same job.
Sadly, he's not the only one with this kind of mentality and I'm not just talking about the youth service program but about life in general. There are certain things that we have to do or learn, but we keep putting it on hold because we feel we don't have the need for it yet..
But then when the opportunity comes and we're not prepared for it, we feel bad and talk about how the system is rigged when in reality, it was us who were unprepared.
They say opportunity comes but ones, and I'm sure no one would want to miss a life changing opportunity just because they refused to do that one thing they should have done three years ago. So make sure you put yourself in order, do what you have to do and then pray and wait for the opportunity to come....or just go after it yourself, it doesn't matter.
What matters, is that you're prepared for it.
I can understand the point. I also think that it's good to being prepared and in that case we can grab opportunities whenever it comes to us otherwise we may miss it.
