Taking Responsibilities

I've always been that guy who shys away from responsibilities and my reason for that is simple, to me, being the guy at the war front puts you under a lot of pressure, and even though you're most likely to get praised the most if you win that battle, what happens when you lose?

So I've always preferred being the guy at the back, following orders. That way, whether we lose or win, I won't be blamed for anything because I simply were following someone else's orders. To be honest, it's not really the best way one should live his or her life but I felt comfortable not having the spotlight on me, so I remained there.

Unfortunately, this mentality followed me to the University and while my colleagues were making friends with most lecturers, I was in my own tiny corner, trying not to get noticed by any of them because even though I knew that there were benefits with being friends with the lecturers, I also knew I won't have any trouble with them if I simply did all I was to do which was come to class, buy my textbooks and handouts and do well in the exam.

So I went through three years in school like that, only a handful of lecturer knew who I was and that happened probably because I had some issues and had to go see them in their offices. Well, getting to the final year, the plan was to continue like that, after all it got me to the final year, which meant it was working for me. But it turned out life had a different plan for me.

I once made a post here talking about how I couldn't find my name on the project list and somehow got the opportunity to pick any lecturer of my choice as my supervisor. Well, it turned out I wasn't the only one whose name was omitted and we all were placed under the same lecturer.

About some days after we got assigned to the lecturer, we all went to his office to introduce ourselves and submit our project topics but after we were done telling him our names, it was time for him to pick a group leader amongst us and for the first time in my life, I got selected. Now for some people, that's a good thing because it means that they get to be close to the lecturer and probably get favors from him.

But for me at that time, all I saw were responsibilities and the workload ahead of me because being the group leader meant one thing, I will be the one doing most of the running around and even though this would somehow guarantee me having a good grade for the project, I don't want these responsibilities because the moment shit goes sideways, I'd be the one taking all the blame.

Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do about it, so I guess it's my cross to carry.

Boss you've got a nice write up here and I really appreciate the experience you've passed to us.

To be honest, I really admire this lifestyle... Being a leader in my school has never been easy for me. I was opportuned to be the course representative for almost three years now, and I will tell you that it has not been easy to be honest.. I confirmed the saying of: uneasy lyes the head that wears the crown.

As the leader, if anything goes wrong, nobody wants to hear my own side of the story, all they want is for me to admit that I messed up everything even though it wasn't me that did it, and I don't know anything about it.

Yup, that's just the bad side to it, having to take the blame even if it wasn't really your fault.. But I guess we have to take the bad the same way we take the good.
