The power of the Mind

If there's one thing I've come to realize, it is that we can do almost anything, if only we have a strong control over our minds.

Few years ago, when my dad came home with a live chicken, I had no idea I would be the assassin who was sent to unalive it. At the time, I've never done something like that and I would always look away whenever it was time for the deed to be done, so when my mom had told me that morning before leaving for her work that I was to unalive the chicken, remove the feathers and have it ready to cook by the time she got back from her shop, I thought she was joking but the look on her face told me she wasn't.

So after a long time of strategizing with my little brother who was the only one at home with me at the time and also had no idea on how to kill a chicken, I finally came to the conclusion that in order for this mission to be successful, I had to first win the battle within myself, I had to look for a way to not feel guilty about what I was about to do.

So I made up a story in my mind, of how that chicken was a terrorist in the land of chickens.. I made up this terrible story in my head about how I would be doing justice to other chickens all over the world by killing this tyrant who has terrorised their land for years now.

It was silly I know, but it worked like crazy. Although I still was scared as that was my first time, I no longer felt as much guilt as I normally would have felt if I hadn't made up that story.

Now I know unaliving a chicken might not be a good example to use in a topic like this, but that was just one of the many situations where I had to convince my mind first, and the moment I was successful doing that, everything else felt a little bit easier to do.

Unfortunately, this mindset thing doesn't only work for good stuff, it works both for good and bad and I guess it all just boils down to the kind of person you are. So I guess if you're a good person, you will use it for something good, and if you're a bad person, we'll, we know the answer to that.

Sort:

I have seen stuff on TV where the person doing the deed prayed over the animal afterwards, asking for forgiveness and thanking the animal for its sacrifice, and allowing the person and his/her family to live for another day.

Yeah, I think I've heard about this before.. I guess everyone does whatever they can to make themselves feel less guilty or something like that.

This part cracked me up so crazily, well I had difficulty time unaliving chickens too, just like you said we just need to change our mindset, for me I just zeroed up my mind that I can kill the animals and I used several reasons why it's no big deal to overcome my phobia

I haven't gotten to that stage yet.. For now, I just have to keep labelling them as terrorists 😂

I think we need to give us some explanation before doing anything and you also done the same. It's just to console ourselves.
