Should children suffer the consequences?

It's always a beautiful moment when a child receives praise from people about their parents or grandparents; this shows how good the attitudes and personalities of their parents were during their time. Also, it's always a surprising thing when a child is favoured for a job he isn't merited for just because he bears the name of one Mr Charles who once worked with them long ago and had a good reputation. This is always a good thing and no one deserves to get the opposite.

I watched this movie titled "Seven Doors" recently and I cried at some point because I saw what the new King went through just because of his grandfather's grave mistakes during his time. For someone who had a different lifestyle, living happily with his wife and two kids, asked to become the king which he never wanted to, but what happened to him? He lost his first child and had to go through a difficult situation that damaged a lot in his love life.

This made me emotional and I cried for him because, at a point, he had no choice but to succumb to the law guiding kingship. I was angry, though it was a movie but it's what is happening everywhere where an innocent child would suffer the consequences of atrocities perpetrated by his or her parents and even forefathers.

Just like the Holy Bible where God said He would visit the sins of the father on the children, even to the fourth generation, but thanks to the era of Grace, Jesus has worked it out for us by bringing peace between God and man. Sincerely, I don't see it as a good thing for a child to suffer the sins of his parents, which he never knew of. It is such an unpalatable experience to go through something you never did all because of the carelessness of the older generation.

These people are supposed to reap the consequences of their mistakes and not be transferred to the children who know nothing about them. But you know, some people can be so wicked that they deem it fit to transfer the sufferings on the children because they couldn't do that to the parents who committed the crime, perhaps due to death taking their lives early and because of the revenge in their hearts, they choose to let the children suffer instead and that is something unfair.

Though one cannot take this away completely, it is worth understanding the place of mercy and grace which can both be found in Christ where they speak on behalf of those suffering the consequences of their parents' sins and coming to the throne of Grace would help them overcome such because truth is, there are evil ones in the world who would always choose to make the children suffer because they could not forgive but take revenge.

This is why it is important to always pray and avert every sin parents must have committed that wants to be transferred to them early enough before it gets too late. No one deserves to suffer for what they never committed all because of someone's carelessness and not thinking of the future generations.

Reading through the first paragraph I already had my reply but as I continued I saw that you have already said everything. The blood of Jesus has redeemed us from this curses but that doesn't mean we will neglect the place of prayer.

Exactly. Prayer shouldn't be taken lightly when it comes to matters like this.

Thank God for His work on the cross because that has covered all.

I have also watched the movie seven doors and like you, I cried for the new king and all he had to go through because he had to be king. His beliefs were tried and his tolerance range hit rock bottom. All because his nonsense great grandfather abused his authority.

The shock of that movie still grips my heart till date.

I also agree with you. Children should not pay for the sins of their forefathers.

As in...he went through hell before he won victory in the end. Many parents do not consider how grievous their sins could be which would implicate their future children and by then, they won't be alive to watch them. So sad.

There was this movie I watched, where an innocent child suffers for the sins of his parents, and he suffers for it until he dies. It's just so sad when innocent children have to carry the weight of their parents' past mistakes.

It saddens my heart when I read such stories and in the end, the children die in the process. So disheartening.

In Seven Doors, the king eventually prevailed after losing a lot. However, in the real world we live, people lose everything to the sins of their progenitors.

In religion, there are firebrand pastors out there who are still under the yoke of inherited sins. Especially those from lineage of powerful and ruthless rulers of previous generations.

May God help us all. It can get scary sometimes.

Very scary sometimes but yes, God will help us all.

I hate it when adults choose a life that hampers the next generation. I wish they would be more mindful.

I hate it too but sometimes, the victims have no choice 😔

That's true.

Seven doors came to my mind immediately I saw the prompt and truly the movie got me emotional. It's a terrible thing when a child has to suffer for his or her parents' sins but what can we do than to pray for grace to overcome these consequences.

As much as this is mostly tagged spiritually, there are so many cases that have nothing to do with spirituality. It's important that parents think thoroughly before making moves or decisions that might ruin their children's life in the long run.

Yes, I'm glad I watched that movie before I saw this prompt, making me make reference to it. Thank God for grace from Jesus. You are right there, not everything is spiritual as it mostly the parents' fault all along.

Totally Agree with you.
I also did not like the fact that why should we be punished for someone else's mistake, no matter how close he is to us.No one deserves to suffer for someone else's crime.

That is it. No one deserves such punishment they know nothing about.
