The Impact of an Absent Parent: How Single Parenting Shapes a Child’s Future

I have some points to make as regards the first HL edition about the effects of single parenting on a child. One of the effects I know is the absence it causes to a child. A child raised by a single parent would feel the void more, especially when the father isn't around; he or she feels the vacuum of a father figure, and if it's the mother who is absent, it deprives a child of the mother figure.

Though we have some single parent who serves as though there are two people in the picture taking care of a child and every treatment would be given so that the child doesn't miss the other person not in the picture.

But all of these depend on how a child is being taken care of. Parenting isn't an easy job but when one is focused and committed to giving a child the best in life, it doesn't matter if he or she was raised by a single parent or both parents. I've seen children being brought up by two people and still act wayward, whereas, a child brought up by a single parent would be great and act responsible. It's a matter of how the parents hold their children's lives.

Also, circumstances may occur, making a parent leave either by death, divorce or separation, still, when the single parent is determined to take care of the child and not make them feel the absence, they will. Nevertheless, the absence still has a strong impact on the child's life. Some single parents would serve as both a father and mother doing the job and not make a child feel sad or neglected, and when there's an understanding by the child, it makes it easier.

Financial and Emotional Struggles

Another major effect is the financial and emotional strain it causes a child. It is easier when both parents work hand in hand to support each other in bringing up a child, but when it's only one parent, he or she often has to work extra hard to provide for the child, juggling work, parenting and carrying the responsibilities at home alone. This can sometimes be draining, which means less time spent with the child, leading to feelings of loneliness and neglect.

Emotionally, the burden of raising a child alone can be overwhelming. Some children may act stubborn, not appreciating the effort of their parents and would feel guilty for adding to their parent's stress, while others may develop resentment due to not being given the attention that would satisfy them. However, children in such situations often grow up resilient and independent which makes them develop strong problem-solving skills as they witness the efforts their parents had to make and the sacrifices and hard work.

Social and Behavioral Challenges

Children who are brought up by a single parent may also face social and behavioural challenges. They might struggle with forming relationships because they have trust issues or are in a situation where they feel inadequate compared to their peers who are brought up by two parents. In some cases, they may develop truancy in school or seek validation through the wrong channel, thereby putting up negative behaviours.

However, the way a child is brought up is very important and plays a crucial role here. While we may have some children, despite being raised by both parents who still exhibit behavioural issues, others who are raised by single parents grow up into responsible and well-behaved individuals. Regardless of whether it's a single parent or both, what can really make a difference in a child’s life is how committed and attentive a parent is.

In conclusion:

While the absence of a parent can have a significant impact on a child's life, whether emotional, financial or social development, the determining factor in a child's future is the kind of parenting they receive. Children need quality upbringing no matter who is in the picture or not. If given the right guidance, love, attention and support, a child raised by a single parent can thrive.

Circumstances such as divorce, separation, or the death of a parent may create unavoidable gaps, but with understanding and effort, those gaps can be filled.

Ultimately, it is not just about the number of parents but the commitment and dedication put into raising a child that shapes their future. Whether raised by one or two parents, what truly matters is the love, values, and support they receive along the way.

That is exactly how I viewed it. Whoever is involved should do it right and pray for God's guidance.

I feel that the presence of both parents is very important in the life and upbringing of a child.
Many children who turn out to struggle through life can be said to be without parental support.

In other sphere, single parenting might hav been productive but nevertheless, the proportion is low.

It is a natural phenomenon that the father and mother take responsibility of bringing up a child.

You are very right, too. There must be parental support regardless of who is in the picture or not.

Raising a child is not an easy task, and undoubtedly, it takes a lot of hard work on the part of the parents to raise them. Again, even when a child grows up, they need proper education from their parents. Overall, I think that parents' efforts are essential to a child's future.

Absolutely correct and I agree with you. Parents efforts are required to bring up a child in the best way.

You have said it all my sister whether a child' grows up with both parents or even a single parent doesn't determine if the child is going to be successful or not. But regardless a child still needs the love and care of both parents.
