Back in my secondary school days, the Art students are often held back by the history teacher during break because he is yet to either finish explaining or dictating the note to them. We the science student will stay at the corridor of their class to enjoy the history. Sometimes, it is very boring and we pity or tease them till they are done.
I think I like history because it is a story, though real life stories. Listening to the history teacher, government teacher and other times listening to elderly people telling us history is always intriguing.
I support the motion that history should be taken serious in all schools. Why ? History is a teacher of the past and could be said to be the chronicles of past mistakes and achievements of men, societies, tribes and clans, culture, countries and continents. Without history, many mistakes will be made again and again, too many people will fall victims of whatever they should have learnt through history. Imagine history being erased and younger children grow up not knowing a thing about their country, tribe, culture even as small as their society or community. If history is scrapped, some other fields of study will be affected somehow.
@glorydee said in her post "history helps create a connection with the past and present generations" I totally agree with her. With history we can trace the becoming of the present and it gives us the probability that we can predict the future if the history is studies well. The power, influence, and relevance of the governments of nations rely on their history. For example, WW1 and WW2 and other tussle between nations in the past has somehow given many nations their relevance ( what they are known for today ).
I was watching YouTube shorts today and I saw a video that was about what some counties and know for. France for fashion and luxury, India for softwares and pharmaceuticals, Russia for their natural gas and gold, Germany for engineering, and many more countries. The only reason why thses countries are known is because they have it in history. A typical example is Nigeria economy, with history being relevant, the younger generation will be able to know and point exactly how and why the economy is how it is today. With history many countries can be predicted on how they will perform in few years to come because of how they had done in few years ago.
Without history being taught in school, there will be to any loop holes that will remain unfilled, thousands of questions will remain unanswered. It was with history we got to know our country's national anthem, motto, symbols, laws and regulations. A country, tribe, culture, even religion is preserved by history. History should remain an important subject in schools but it could be improved, history teachers should work more on how to teach the subject, tell stories to be less strenuous (because history can be stories) the curriculum shouldn't be as bulky as it used to be, hence, boring students with too many long stories that could be shortened and still retain the important details.
