Let me start by saying that we can never know it all no matter how we want to. There are times when things may be looking very easy but there are many things to it and that's just life. Aside from the fact that life is deep, English language is also deep. English language is dynamic because it changes from time to time and that's why it is always good to be updated to know if we're saying the correct thing and if not, we should try to make amends. I also feel learning one or two things everyday will help us to speak good English than not learning at all. Let's learn a few words or sentences today till next Sunday.
I'm a talkative ~ I'm talkative
I know that so many foreigners who come from English speaking countries must be familiar with this but people like us should'nt be blamed because we are from countries that speak numerous languages. A lot of people say "I'm a talkative" which is not correct but the best way to add talkative to a sentence is "I'm talkative" and we have other examples like saying "I don't like someone who is talkative"' "He gets talkative whenever he's with his friends". You should check dictionaries or Google to get a proof of what I'm saying.
Happy belated birthday ~ Belated happy birthday
English language is not my mother's language and when I see some correct sentences, I always wonder why it is like that since that's not how we speak them here. So many of us are fond of saying "Happy belated birthday" until I went to a film academy and we were told that there is nothing like that and the best way to wish someone a happy birthday in arrears is by saying "Belated happy birthday". I think it is important to take note of this and make amends.
My father is an army ~ My father is in the army
So many people here make this mistake and ut sounds absurd to me all of the time. Army is an organized military force meant to protect and fight for the people of the land. So imagine saying that your father is an army which means you are stating that your father is an organized military force which is supported to be a thing that consists of so many people. That's wrong. The right sentence should be "My father is in the army". Let's take note of this too.
I want to take part of this activity ~ I want to take part in this activity
This may sound alike they don't and I've seen cases where people make mistakes of saying that they want to take part of this activity instead of saying that they want to take part in this activity. Also, we should note that saying I want to be a part in this is wrong but I want to be a part of this is correct. They may sound alike or contradicting but the most important thing is to be able to spot the differences.
Thank you for reinforcing our English speaking culture
