When talking about grasshoppers, you may remember catching these jumping insects in the backyard or in a large garden.
However, there is another species of grasshopper named Locust, which appears as a plague that rains down on crops and devours every plant in sight.
Both grasshoppers and locusts are members of the same insect order. Both creatures are members of the short-horned order Orthoptera, which is grouped into the suborder Caelifera or group of jumping herbivores with shorter antennae.
While their relatives with longer horns (crickets and katydids) are included in the suborder Ensifera.
