Red forest ant I came across their anthill quite by accident, the day I went into the woods for mushrooms. I didn't even plan to take any photos that day, but when I saw this anthill, I realized that you could take good pictures. It was interesting that I saw a working ant and a soldier live nearby, thanks to which I was able to compare their appearance and understand how much bigger a soldier is than a working ant. The soldiers were very aggressive towards me, trying to reach me, and some even got on their hind legs to spray me with a jet of formic acid. In general, this was a very interesting and informative meeting.

They belong to the subfamily of formicins, which has about 3,000 species. This subfamily includes the most evolutionarily advanced species.

The anthill is made of needles and twigs, anthills can reach 2 m in height. On average, 500-800 thousand people live in the anthill. individuals, and in large more than a million.
Length of an ant from 7 to 14 mm.

Half of the abdomen is occupied by a poisonous gland surrounded by a muscular sac, when the muscles contract, the poison (formic acid) is ejected at a distance of several tens of cm!
