Pictured is a Fly of the genus Scathophaga.
It belongs to the family of manure flies (Scathophagidae), which has 232 species. Body length 5-13 mm.

The female lays up to 60 large eggs, immersing each in manure. In total for a life the female makes from 4 to 10 layings. The larvae emerge in 1-2 days, after which they burrow into the manure and feed on it, for the next 5 days they undergo 3 molts, after which they do not feed for another 5 days to free the stomach before pupation. After 10-20 days, the larvae burrow into the soil under or near manure and pupate. Depending on the temperature, adult flies appear in 10-80 days. Females are smaller than males and appear a few days earlier.

Adults are predators and feed on smaller insects, mostly other flies. In order to become sexually mature, they need to hunt to accumulate enough protein and fat. Females in malnutrition have increased egg mortality and poor larval survival.
