Knowledge acquisition is not a scam

Knowledge acquisition shouldn't be taken with levity hands because knowledge doesn't end. The more one searches for it, the more one is exposed to it. Knowledge is priceless and is an important factor in human life; I don't agree with people who say school is a scam. I've seen several graduates who don't understand what is meant by discipline or faculty. How, then, is school a scam? It is a platform to acquire knowledge even though many abuse the opportunity in this present GenZ generation, all claiming they can be successful without going to school.

In the olden days, our predecessors found it very difficult to acquire knowledge; many had to travel miles to gain access to books to read, some orally through direct teaching, which is limited to privileged individuals. Some got knowledge from elders around through their experiences. Knowledge in the olden days was slow and took many years to master, unlike the modern age we are in now, where technology has made life easier for humans. We now have access to the Internet and AI (artificial intelligence) and interact with other people from different countries not limited to one's geographical zone alone.

Modern ways of acquiring knowledge are easily accessible to everyone unlike when one had to travel several miles away from home. The speed of learning in this era is fast and instant; the only disadvantage of this way of learning is that deep understanding is shallow at times due to an overload of information that might affect such individuals.

There are several ways of acquiring knowledge in the olden days, which I can tell some. While growing up, I was opportune to live with my grandparents for some time which allowed me to acquire some knowledge and life lessons through story tellings. Another means of acquiring knowledge then was through learning a trade or craft. I remember I was taught embroidery then, and I had forgotten how to go about it. Our predecessors then had no opportunity for formal education; only the elite did, and that cost a fortune.

In the modern days, websites like YouTube have made learning easier due to online tutorials, e-books, and other open online courses. The establishment of formal education that can be accessed through schools, colleges, and universities has had a great impact on this generation. The use of search engines such as Google provides quick answers to questions reducing the stress of looking for answers in textbooks. The use of artificial intelligence apps such as Meta AI, and Chatgpt has made learning easier.

Old means of acquiring knowledge encourage deep learning and understanding and it improves experiences. While the modern encourages diversity of knowledge sources and convenience. It's easily accessible wherever one is, and sometimes it spreads misinformation, which might lead to the accumulation of unnecessary things. We aren't smarter or more intelligent than our predecessors; technology just made life easier for humans to acquire quality knowledge.

Thanks for your time and your comments will be appreciated.

We aren't smarter or more intelligent than our predecessors;

Exactly

They pushed themselves to grow more because they had no options.

I agree with you that currently the generation Z is not smarter than its predecessors, but simply do not have the level of deep understanding than those of generation X and the Baby Boomers we have.
