This is my entry to the Hive Learners weekly contest.
Health is wealth, so our health should always be taken paramount care of in ways in which we can. This topic is really a good one at its peak. The government or anyone else trying to make check-ups mandatory would be nice. When people are unhealthy in general, it also affects the country at large. The economic and social development are either directly or indirectly affected in one way or the other. In market rules and regulations, it is set up that the market closes by 5pm or 6pm, and in some, there is no market on Sundays. This is nice, as even in some cases, we can see people trying to sell for 24 hours in the day without resting.
People might know what to do in a situation where there are no rules; if so, they might not do it. It might be procrastinated till when. When people are sick and go to the hospital after they might have been treated and gotten better, coming back to check up is an issue, as they are already well, not knowing that it is very important and paramount to them. It is for our benefit but might also be difficult to do. In a situation where it is compulsory, it would be helpful to both the individual and the society at large.
However, as the personal desire to do what we want is good, it should not supersede the public health concern in society. It's our personal choice but also has it negative effects in which is being tried to overcome so we have a smoother society by God's Grace.
There are benefits of health checkups, which include:.
Early detection of diseases like cancer, diabetes, and hypertension: late detection of some diseases is always an issue of concern. In a situation where people have one disease and until one breaks down, by then it would have reached the big stage. If there is a periodic check-up, it would help in the treatment of diseases and prevent the escalation of them.
Prevention of outbreaks through regular screenings: It would help to avoid the outbreak of disease as it is developing; it is detected through screening and prevented immediately. As there is regular screening, it would help.
Improved mental health support through routine check-ins: It is also a good way to help have a good, healthy well-being through regular check-ups of our health.
Can compulsory checkups reduce long-term healthcare costs? Of course, yes, a very big YES. For example, when a person is in stage one of sickness, like cancer, the medication would always seem to be less compared to when the person is in stage three of the cancer. So early diagnosis would help to reduce the cost-effectiveness of the treatment of the disease.
The ethics of mandatory medical checkups are those in which should be looked at. While trying to help citizens, it should also be done in a good way for their benefit.
We keep hoping for the best. 🙏
