Definitely, we are very privileged to live in an era of massive technological advancements as this has made information sourcing very easy and cheaper than ever too.
Definitely, we are very privileged to live in an era of massive technological advancements as this has made information sourcing very easy and cheaper than ever too.
Just yesterday, Deepseek AI was launched which is a proof that we are not just opportuned to witness these advancements, but we are more than lucky to be in the era where brilliant minds are in continuous competition over who will develop the most efficient and easiest way to access information. Today, from the comfort of your bed, you can comfortably read about anything in the world. In fact, most times, these information even come to us when we don't seek them too, talking about the various ads and sponsored educational contents.
However, the question of if this singular benefit makes us smarter or more knowledgeable than our forefathers who had to go through thousands of pages to find information is what I cannot outrightly give a yes or no answer to. This is because factors just like how we process the information we acquired, how we analysed them and finally how we apply them play a big role in determining the intelligence and wisdom of someone and not just the easy access to information which is the greatest advantage we have over them I presume and here are my reasons :
You Never Know Unless You Seek
Acquiring knowledge isn't something that comes to people just because it's available or because it's within your reach, knowledge comes only to those who seek it. The zeal to be knowledgeable bridges the possible gap accessibility might have created.
Easy Access Breeds Procrastination
Because we have the sources to these information at our fingertips, it becomes easier for people to keep procrastinating learning. You see people pile up their to-do list over a long period of time, long enough that some might even forget they had something to read. This is unlike our forefathers who after walking long distance to the library gives their very best in covering whatever they wanted to read because thinking about the distance to get back to the library again puts them on their toes.
Also, this ease of information access also could lead to poor learning. This is because instead of going to classrooms for students to learn directly from their teachers, some prefers staying in their comfort zone making it almost impossible to decipher the wrong information when the presenter online makes a mistake.
This also makes it so direct and specific that you get online and just read whatever you wants to read without reading other things that brought about that thing.
For instance, you get online to read about malaria, it brings out just malaria and you read whatever you've seen unlike in olden times where you get to the library and before you flip to the page where malaria was discussed, you will see that mosquitoes are the vectors. Unlike the person that read only malaria straightforward, you know that when you want to be free from malaria, it starts as low as avoiding contacts with the mosquitoes.
Cycle Of Wrongs
With the current trend, it is easier to be mislead. Because of the excess materials available, it makes it very difficult to find out the one that has the most accurate information not to talk of now when false information and fake news are the order of the day because anyone could literally publish anything online just with an active account even when the person isn't knowledgeable enough on that field.
Sometimes, there are little prices we pay for comfort but Eventually being knowledgeable boils down to personal efforts and determination. While we could use the technology around us as a tool for easier access which I appreciate, it doesn't outrightly make us more intelligent .
Thanks for reading and have a nice day ahead 👍

Beyond what we see or get from the internet there is a point of be deliberate to advance in knowledge unless there will still be that limitation. There is still need to be in the formal class to gain that vast training from the lecturers because I still believe that they know more in the fields of interest than we do instead of saying you will be at home and read up from the internet later
That's very true
They've read some of those things we rush to and made the necessary corrections, in fact, some of them are authors of what we read and they couldn't have done that without consulting other authorities too, now came to teach us and we decide to limit ourselves just because of easy access, lol
