Surviving a Wild Weekend: Almost Lost My Phone!

in Hive Learnerslast month

This is me saying Happy Sunday to you all...

Although this post was intended to be written on a Saturday, but omoor! My Saturday was too busy, and I could not find the time to settle. Today I will tell you what happened yesterday, why it was stressful, how my phone was almost stolen, and why I arrived home at 10 p.m.

The story should start on Friday. I had a very busy Friday. I spent most of the time in school trying to print my final year project report, bind it, and make my final submission before heading back home. I initially thought it was something that would only take me 30 minutes. This was how I spent nearly four hours attempting to print my report.

I was able to print it and then went to the shop to have it bound, where I was told to return on Monday. After that, I went home to relax, eat, and probably sleep in preparation for my trip to Lagos on Saturday. That is how I remembered I had a rehearsal on Friday night. I was contemplating whether to go at first or not because I planned to travel the next day. Finally, I had to attend the rehearsals despite knowing that I would be travelling the next day.

Saturday Travels: From Abeokuta to Lagos

Saturday came by. I was epically tired and was not feeling like travelling any longer, but I had no choice but to go because I had a program that afternoon. I forced myself and left Abeokuta for Lagos. I needed to leave early because the location I was going to was unfamiliar, so I could easily ask for directions and arrive on time.

I left my place almost at noon, and I got there almost at 4 pm. It worked out perfectly because the programme was scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. It was a studio session called Hymns and Rap. The program went really well. I could not take pictures because I am no longer proud of my phone camera, and I was not motivated to take them.

Studio Session: Hymns, Rap, and a Surprise Backup

I was supposed to play the guitar during the studio session, so I was surprised to see another guitarist there. It felt like he was invited in case I messed up. It is understandable because the guy, my friend who hosts the programme, has always tried to call me, but my line does not go through because I have made myself scarce and unreachable.

I was relieved the other guitarist was present because my effect pedal refused to work. It would not have been ideal if I had been the only one around without a working effect pedal again. I saw that everything works for my good. So I connected my guitar without the effect and played like that. So we had two lead guitarists, one bassist, and a drummer. The program went really well at the end of the day.

Fast forward to when I was on my way home. If I had not been paying attention at this point, I could have easily lost my phone. I boarded a bus to take me to a particular point. I was told to stay in front of the car with someone sitting next to the driver. After the conductor closed the door, it refused to close. We were trying to close the door while the bus was moving. The conductor instructed me to use both hands to close the door properly.

The Almost-Stolen Phone: A Close Call

Recall the bus is still in motion. While I was struggling to close the door, I noticed that my phone was moving out of my pocket. I felt it slowly drifting away and said, "Wait, oh." I had to quickly remove the phone from my pocket. As I did so, I saw the facial expression of the guy beside me and how his eyes followed my phone as I tried putting it in my bag. This made me change my decision to instead hold the phone in my hand tight so that I can use my eyes to watch my phone and keep it safe like that.

Almost immediately after this incident, the driver stated that he was not going to the side where he was supposed to drop us off, and then requested that we drop. It felt like, "Wait, what just happened?" Was this all planned work with the driver, conductor, and the person sitting beside the driver? It felt very much like it, and I was relieved that my phone had not been stolen.

I took about 3 hours from the studio back to my house. It was like another trip, and I arrived home late and exhausted. My bag was extremely heavy due to the effect pedal in it. The weight of the bag was so heavy that it drained my strength. I haven't slept yet; I just decided to use the last energy left in me to share this story before going to bed.

If you see this post, that means I have woken up to publish the post. Take care and have a wonderful Sunday.
