An elderly person at home, is a living golden treasure!

in Hive Learners5 days ago

Modern life often involves long working hours, childcare responsibilities, and other commitments, leaving little time for additional social interactions, even with loved ones who are older. In the fast paced lifestyle, we often missed out on handling our personal responsibility. It does not take long to consider our older family member as burden. Rather than taking care, many individuals prefer to shift them to old age homes or other retirement center for their upkeep. In process they pay huge money for theor well being. No matter how they would be treated at an alien center. Coming from a traditional family background, I would never support such step.

Not everyone is aware of the importance of social connection for older adults and how simple acts of kindness can significantly impact their well-being. It happened with my Dad, who always seeks well being of me. I remember an instance, when i fell ill and hospitalised for a good jumber of days. My dads on learning my situation, came straightaway leaving everything behind. Such was his commitments, love and affection towards his children. When I was made to choose between career and my ailing Dad, I could not hesitate giving up my career for the sake of his well being. He was in dire need of medical attention. I can not leave him to others hand. For me spending time with him was more precious than handling them under others watchful eyes.

Timeless memories

I have seen many people do not have time for older individuals. Younger generations may not fully understand the challenges and experiences of older people, leading to a disconnect and less inclination to spend time with them. Ageism in society can lead to negative stereotypes about older people, causing some people to avoid them or not prioritize their needs. Concerns about potential cognitive issues in older adults might make some people hesitant to engage with them, especially if they have difficulty following conversatiothatBut the more we spend time with them, the more we learn about their mental well being.

In my country a old people is cosidered to be a toddler who needs much care and attention. Just imagine the case, when during our childhood, they would had handed over to other for upbringing. Our parents faced all the troubles and nurture us. Then why we should run away from the good cause and avoid the added responsibility. However, Sending an elderly person to an old age home can be considered acceptable, especially if they require significant medical care or assistance with daily activities that can't be adequately provided at home, and if the old age home offers a safe, supportive environment with proper care and social interaction. At the same time it is crucial to consider the individual's wishes and involve them in the decision-making process as much as possible.

Family dynamics

If family members are unable to provide adequate care due to distance, work commitments, or lack of medical expertise, an old age home can be a viable option. It's essential to research and choose a reputable old age home with a good track record for providing quality care, safety, and respect for residents. Many seniors thrive in the social environment of an old age home, where they can interact with peers, participate in activities, and combat loneliness.

A family always remain family, no matter what will happen, and how modernise we get, the old peoole always seek supports and care of their closed one's. Neglecting it and running away may not suits to every individuals. Older people can significantly influence family dynamics by acting as a source of wisdom, providing emotional support, contributing to decision-making, maintaining family traditions, and sometimes taking on caregiving roles for younger family members, depending on their health and living situation. Taking into these into account, their influence can also be impacted by factors like their personality, the family structure, and potential health challenges as they age.

Peace!

It's hard, not everyone has the facilities to support an older family member like that. For example, the house my wife and I live in has a ton of stairs. Fine for us, but if one of our parents had to come live with us, we would basically have to buy a whole new house. While I definitely agree it's preferable, the financial means aren't always there.

I agree with you, entrusting your parents to a nursing home is not a good idea, I am also one of the least in this regard.
They are happy with their families, us and all, at the hands of strangers most of our parents suffer.

Same in my tribe. Aged individual are more like toddlers and will behave like one most of the times (especially if they are really old). They need the same care and attention a toddler would be given because they barely can do anything themselves.
