A story about nothing

Hey everyone, I am writing this post for the new subject of the Hive Learners community. Maybe you're wondering: Stekene, what is this title about? Well, I'll try to explain it through a story. I often write more articles with an informational touch so no idea if 'story-writing' will be fine. But if we don't try something, we'll never know it.

19 January 2003

It was 19 january 2003, at that time I was still a child without much sorrows. It was one of the days that the youth movement of which I was a member organized an afternoon with activities. After playing a whole afternoon of games, we ate some dinner in the evening together. It wasn't anything fancy: some fries with fried meat. Not healthy at all but rather easy and all children loved it. When we finished the meal, it was already dark outside as it was in the middle of the winter and the days are shorter at those times.

I gathered together my belongings and took my bike to bike home. Normally I had a friend who used to live in the same street as me at the time, but he was ill that day so I had to bike home alone. Not really a problem as it was about 10minutes of biking and I had done it already several days. I said goodbye to the animators and started my 'small' journey. Between the youth movement and my home, was a railway station. Or better said, used to be a railway station. Nowadays the railway is a bike road and the old station is functioning as a community centre which you can hire very cheap. When I approached the railway station, I suddenly had the feeling someone was following me. I kept looking over my shoulder to see id there was someone. I couldn't see anyone but as it was already dark, I didn't trust it at all. I started to speed up my biking to get home faster. I kept looking behind me as I couldn't get rid of the feeling someone was chasing me. It was peobably the fastest time I got home ever. When I reached my house, I placed my bike inside very fast and locked the door. I made it safely home, although my heart was still beating like never before.

Was there someone chasing me?

Probably not, I live in a very safe neighborhood so chanches are really small. You never know ofcourse but I don't think it was a real threat. I think it's really strange how human brains work. Like what did caused my head to think I was in such a danger and I became so terrified? I truely have no idea and so it stayed a mistery and will stay a mistery for eternity.

Thank you for reading my story about nothing! I am wondering if you experienced similar events as well? Please feel free to let me know so in the comments!

so funny but it is better to be safe than to rebel against the fear of the unknown, what if someone was actually after you😀

Yea true, better to be safe than to be a rebel. I think that if something serious would happen, I would be the first to run away 😅

But yes, it could have been scary. But in reality I think chanches are very slim (where I live).

Interesting story about nothing. I did a story about nothing not so long ago and was thinking of doing another one. Maybe me finding this story should be the thing to get me started on nothing.

Sometimes, our brains play on us, thinking there is danger ahead and we start to panic unnecessarily. If someone ask us what is wrong, we won't be able to explain what is making us terrify. This always happen to me every time, my heart will just be panting and would be funny why it happened without an explanation.

I totally agree. It are indeed our brains which are creating something, some kind of illusion. But yes, absolutely strange!

It often happens that when a person travels alone and it is dark at night, he gets the illusion that someone is following him. This has happened to me many times. But when I got home, thankfully I was safe, it was just my illusion.

Exactly what I was experiencing! Luckily I only had it once, was really scared (being a child at that moment)
