‘Tis the season! 🎄✨
This month, I got to find out about a trend that people call Detty December where citizens in diaspora who have been away for the whole year or several years decide to return home for the sole purpose of flexing.
I have had friends who returned for Christmas and all they just want to do is to go out and party and have fun and spend money.
Everywhere on social media, people are giving live updates on how expensive their December is and truth be told, it can cause one to feel oppressed because of the fear of missing out.
It is also very important to always remember that in this life that we live, it is always a “to each his own" situation. People decide how best to celebrate Christmas and if they choose to go all out, then no problem.
I remember listing a few things that I had planned for Christmas in a previous post and so far, all have been going according to plan except for one item on the list.
I am always one for making the best out of what I have. I have no inclination to do things way out of my capacity because I am aware of the consequences of such rash actions and that mindset follows me everywhere and it is present in everything I do. Before Christmas came around, I was in a dilemma as to how I would celebrate Christmas this year. A part of me was of the decision that I go all out with friends, spend money, try new things and basically really enjoy December enough for me to describe it as “Detty".
That was plan A, and plan A was drafted during the early half of the year before things in the country began to deteriorate more.
The other part of me that developed in the later part of the year, made the wiser decision which was to live within my means. The economy in the country has just been on a landslide for a while now and even though I could save up all year for Detty December plans, to what end?
I spend all that money on frivolous things and then cry in January? Nah.
Trust me, I had a hard time parting with plan A because plans have already been made with friends. We'd already chosen the places we'd visit and all that but I had to choose wisely and I am very glad that I did.
Instead of going out and spending a lot of money on transportation fares alone, I decided to stay in and prepare myself physically and mentally for January. January is going to come with the usual January stress and now is the time amidst celebrations to best prepare for it.
I had planned to go see a movie but the prices of movie tickets are not what they were the last time I checked but I'm not surprised. It is the season after all and there would definitely be an increase in the prices of things.
To see to that, I fell back on Netflix and so far, the going has been good. I have been spending quality time with family and I have been taking care of myself like I said I would and I switched the cinema for Netflix!
So far, it's been peaceful and quiet and Christmas-sy too.
I'm limiting my spending so that I do not end up regretting it in the following weeks to come and also so I'll be able to achieve some set goals of mine.
Hopefully by next Christmas the girls and I would be able to bring to life our fantasy of celebrating Christmas lavishly without breaking the bank but until then, wisdom prevails.

Merry Christmas! 🎄✨

In the end, you enjoy the celebrations and that's all that matters, not the amount one spent.
Next year is calling.
Next year is calling. LOL.
Thank you for reading. Merry Christmas. 🎄✨

Hi! It seems that the main image is in vertical when I think the idea is that it is displayed horizontally.
I had the same thought too. My phone flipped the image.
