Music: Food For The Soul

in Hive Learners4 days ago

Music has been said to be food for the soul. It has been said to provide a soothing feeling to the soul of an individual. Music is an important part of our lives and it is one of the most unique ways of expressing those feelings that ordinary words cannot properly put across.

Music goes way back to even before we existed and I say this using biblical history. In the Bible, we are told how God loved music so much that he had an angel who would sing for him. There's even a Christian saying that goes along the lines of “he who sings first prays twice" . I may have said it wrong because it has been a long time since I heard someone say that. It is what my mother used to tell us as children in a bid to encourage us to always sing first before proceeding to ask God for requests.

But, I digress…

Back to the topic of the day, as music is a unique art of self expression, it cuts across the different races and tribes that exist on this earth. Good music travels farther than words ever can. Growing up, I have had the privilege of listening to songs from timeless artists who were raised from grass to grace all because of the quality of music that they put out to the public to consume.

It is one thing to create music and it is another thing entirely to create quality music. Quality music is what we're lacking today in my country and in the whole world.

These days, everyone wants to go into the music industry because they believe that they have the talent even when they don't and as a result, they tend to create music that does nothing to the soul except raise one's blood pressure.

These days, the lyrics to a lot of songs are nothing to write home about. They're empty and every other artist basically sings about the same thing with similar beats. I used to wonder why musicians these days don't even put effort in their music, then I realized that the musicians are just people trying to market a product (their music) and as people marketing a product, they are forced to appeal to the needs of the masses and apparently, in the music market there is a growing demand for such type of music from the public.

In my country, the songs that trend the most for a short while are those songs with fast and hard beats where you can barely hear what the artist is saying except you're aware that the artist is saying something. These songs are promoted all over the Internet and they'll be played everywhere and people go crazy over these songs. The next month, a new one is released and the cycle continues.

People are in a never ending cycle of fast songs with empty lyrics that only give a momentary rush but do absolutely nothing to soothe the soul. With the way the world is now, a lot of souls need soothing but they are not aware because they're carried away by these trending fast songs that only provide momentary pleasure and not the one that lasts.

Personally, I don't really enjoy songs with extremely hard beats because it tends to distort my thoughts. I prefer slower songs with serene melodies that bring calmness to my spirit.

Many songs fail to provide inspiration though the artist might say differently. Which is why many people choose to listen to old songs that actually have meaning, songs that provide another outlook to life that encourage them to look inward to learn more about themselves in a bid to connect more with themselves.

It's rare to find uplifting music these days when every artist basically sings about money and lavish spending.

Artists shouldn't all be chanting one anthem in their songs. There's always room for diversity and improvement and as variety is the spice of life, it'll be much better if they all put more effort into creating quality music for the public.

And this can only be brought to the attention of these musicians by members of the public. If members of the public finally get to realize that the songs of today do not offer any value especially to the younger generation, they can demand a change which the artists will definitely comply with.

I believe when a good number of listeners shows their displease in some certain kind of songs, the artists will amend their ways and begins to sing nice and lovely songs.
