History as we all know are events snd happenings dating back from many years. And I can say history is what makes up a country because every country has different happenings which some can be seen as good and others ugly to recall, but in all historical events helps create awareness about countries.
And my country Nigeria 🇳🇬 is a notion that has many historical happenings especially that and those that relate to politics and political struggles , and history being what we can not change, the bad happenings among a country’s history are the ones that will continue to come to mind once the need for reflection arises.
The June 12th Presidential Election of 1993 is a history that I will never forget because as a young girl then I was almost a victim of attack by the then called hoodlums. The June 12th Presidential Election of 1993 involving the Late M.K.O Abiola that was annulled by the then Gen Ibrahim Babaginda was one event that tour Nigerians apart caused many chaos and untimely deaths due to how Nigerians wanted the return of full Democratic Civilian Rules back since after the Military Government took over the country by Coup .
This Presidential Election was held in Nigeria on the June 12th, 1993, and was supposed to be first since the 1983 Military Coup which will help result in a return of civil rule, but the election was canceled for reasons only known to the government. This in turn made and caused so much trouble that involved loss of lives in the country especially in the Western cities 🌆 of Lagos State and its surroundings.
After the interruption of the release of the election, the assumed winner M.K.O Abiola decided to take office by force but was arrested, causing the hoodlums to take over the streets all over the cities with burn fires which resulted in many vehicles having accidents as people were taken unaware.
This history was one that can never be forgotten easily as the then government never cared nor showed concern on the impact of damages caused to lives and properties and even to the country that was in disarray. It was indeed a sad situation and moments of sorrow to many families and business organizations.
Looking back at this event as a young girl and a mother now, it saddens me of how my country has continued to suffer after all these years through political issues because of how our leaders can not still do the right things. This history of 1993 to this 2025 are over decades but here we are still struggling with politics even after the MANDATE that caused M.K.O Abiola his life.
However, I know history will continue to be there because events and happenings will continue, and many history has also been recorded after that of June 12th. Even Lagos and surrounding states now observes June 12th as a holiday every year in remembrance to this historical event. But things are still not looking good. In fact things has worsened even worst than we ever imagined because after democratic governance eventually returned to Nigeria 🇳🇬, the seat if power became more corrupted. The political struggles in my country has left the citizens without answers. Its now a situation of survival of the fittest. This situation can only be better if the seat of power is being given to those who has conscience to do things right.
