I think fear being inherent gives it a potent force that makes it quite impossible to conquer. It's mostly irrational and prevents us from taking or not taking actions. Acknowledging it goes a long way in helping us understand it and perhaps, learn to control it and not being overly control by it.

Being controlled by it isn't what we might want sometimes, but it might just end up controlling us because of how fragile or vulnerable we can become

Right, we're mostly susceptible to fear during those situations and this often puts us more under its clutches.
