Access to Knowledge : A Blessing Or A Curse?

in Hive Learners11 days ago

In today's digital age, getting access to knowledge has become so convenient. With just a few clicks, we can tap into an ocean of information from the comfort of our own houses , from anywhere we are for that matter. But does this unprecedented access to knowledge necessarily translate to increased intelligence or smartness? Or are we simply drowning in a sea of information, without truly absorbing or applying it?

Let's take a step back and consider how our forefathers accessed their knowledge. Many many years ago, seeking knowledge required a significant amount of time, effort, and dedication. Students and scholars would have to travel miles to libraries, and other places of knowledge, just to spend hours pouring over dusty books and manuscripts. This process was not only time consuming but also had so many factors that limits it , like geographical and social

Let us fast forward to this present day, and the wide scale of knowledge that has been acquired over time , it has changed dramatically. The internet more like the online libraries, and e-books have made information available to everyone. Now, anyone that has an internet connection can access the knowledge of the world without stress and this has created many opportunities for people to learn, work together, and come up with new ideas. However, as we dwell in the convenience and accessibility of digital knowledge, we must also look at the darker side of this too. With this information already made ,are we truly engaging with it on a deeper level? Or are we just only skimming through the surface, without really absorbing the content.

One of the main problems is that there is too much information online. Which makes it hard to know what's important and what's not. This can cause "analysis paralysis," where we will feel overwhelmed and cannot make decisions because of all the information colliding in our heads.

The easy of access to knowledge can also create a false sense of security. Because we look up answers online, we may be less inclined to engage in deeper, for more meaningful learning. We rely too heavily on search engines and online resources, rather than developing our own critical thinking and problem-solving skills, like this happens very often.

Another worry is that we're only seeing the same ideas online. Social media can create "bubbles" that show us only what we already agree with. This can make us less likely to hear different opinions or question our own thoughts

So, are we smarter than our forefathers ? The answer is no. Having a lot of information available doesn't mean we're using it to become smarter or wiser. We still make the same mistakes and have the same flaws as people always have.

And yet, despite these limitations, there is still reason to be optimistic. For all its flaws, the internet has also made it easier for people to work together, share ideas, and learn from each other. It connects us with people from different backgrounds and helps us achieve common goals.

What really matters isn't whether we're smarter than people in the olden days. It is how we use the gadgets and everything we have now. Do we use them to learn more? Or, challenge ourselves, and make a positive difference? Or do we just use them to confirm what we already think and avoid dealing with the world's complexities? Hmmm?

The choice is ours. So as we navigate the modern and digital world, let's try to be more thoughtful, critical, and curious. Let's use what we have to become wiser, kinder, and more engaged people. That's how we can create a brighter future for everyone.

Easy access to knowledge is a double-edged sword for real. While it opens doors to endless learning, it also makes us more passive consumers, making productivity lesser.

It has to be the latter, we just skimming through the information most of the times in this era, that's too bad but you can't blame us when there's too much online 😢
