Making the Most of the Holiday Season

in Hive Learners7 days ago

It's about that time of the year again when most people go on holiday. As the year draws nearer to ending, you'll find many self-employed people taking a break, and even those who worked under an organization are given time off work so as to relax and come back refreshed the next year and work efficiently. While this is a common practice with many, it's also known that not everyone takes these breaks; in fact, you'll find some people working even when they have the privilege to rest, and today I'll be sharing my own plan for this holiday season.

All work and no play, they say, makes Jack a dull boy, and that can as well be related to holiday seasons. I mean, when you've worked for almost every single day of the year, it's ideal that you at least take a break to rejuvenate, relax, and have some time to yourself and family, off work, to just relish the moment without being distracted with work, and for me as a person, I love holidays. In fact, I usually look forward to it.

It's not that I don't love my job or what I do, but like the common quote I stated above, when you work, you should also have time to rest; if not, working around the clock continuously for years can lead to one breaking down, falling sick, and being unable to perform the tasks they used to perform, and that's due to how much stress has piled up in their body without considering that they should give their body, brain, and all a break.

On a norm, once we vacate from the school at this time of the year, I usually travel down home immediately to spend enough time with my family and loved ones, and since it has even become a family tradition for us to celebrate this Christmas together as a family, that's why I usually travel immediately to have a wonderful time with my family, and through that we can relish everything we've gone through since the last time we met and also create lasting shared experiences together as a family that strengthen our bond.

However, this year might be slightly different, and that's not because I don't want to travel home to celebrate the holidays with my family, but because, unlike the previous years, my employer has laid down a staff audit to be held just a week before Christmas, and this has stood as a hindrance that will prevent me from traveling because the audit is compulsory, and missing it isn't an option according to my employer.

Also, there are some credentials that were required to be brought to the audit that I presently don't have, and getting them with such short notice will cost me some cash, and putting all of this into consideration, I've decided that this year, I'll most likely be spending the holiday season alone by myself, or if at all I crave the togetherness of my family, then I'll just travel to a nearby extended family place to spend the holidays.

Given the closeness of the audit to Christmas, traveling down home will incur more because the transporter usually increases the amount they charge during this season, and since I can't travel on time, it means I'll have to pay more. Given the amount I'll be spending to sort out all I needed for the audit, I guess I won't want to go into another expending treat from traveling.

I'm sure my family will understand, and like I said, I'll most likely be celebrating this holiday by myself, but aside from blogging on Hive, I won't be bringing any other work home, and that's so I can have enough time to myself to rest, relish the moment, and come back stronger next year.

When you're so used to spending certain moments with family, doing it any other way, especially for the first time, will feel so off and different. I do hope that you have a nice time wherever you end up having the holiday.

Certain work rules can be hindering, but one has got to stay employed. Another holiday break will come.

You would be spending Christmas alone; wow, this audit should have been done earlier than this.

I know you will get through it, though it won't be like when you were home, it's gonna be all different.

Same to you.

Does that mean you’ll be spending Christmas alone with no one? Moreover, the audit should have been done earlier to avoid affecting those of you planning to travel to celebrate Christmas with family. But now, because of the audit, you’ll have to spend Christmas alone. No problem I know the audit will go well as you plan.

Yes that's exactly what it means, but I can change my mind and visits extended family members who stays nearby.

Smile I can relate to that feeling as a student, and now being a teacher, it's the same.
