Firstly, I will be defining social media according to Wikipedia. "Social media are interactive technologies that facilitate the creation, sharing, and aggregation of content, ideas, interests, and other forms of expression through virtual communities and networks."
In layman terms, I will define social media as a wide online platform where people can share their thoughts, ideas, and experiences, connect with others who share similar interests, interact with each other, and create and share content (like photos, videos, or writings) online through various networking devices. Examples of these social media platforms include Hive, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter (currently known as X), TikTok, and many more.

Having defined this term, I can now proceed with stating the good and evil associated with it.
To begin with, social media has had a positive impact since its emergence.

Connectivity: Social media connects people worldwide, fostering relationships and communities.

Self-expression: Social media provides a platform for self-expression, creativity, and personal branding.

Information sharing: Social media enables rapid information sharing, helping to spread awareness very quickly.

Online marketing: Social media provides businesses with a platform to reach customers, promote products, and build their brand.

The evil associated with social media may include:

Addiction: Social media can be addictive, leading to decreased productivity and misplaced priorities.

Cyberbullying: Social media can facilitate bullying, harassment, and online abuse.

Misinformation: Social media can spread false information, propaganda, and disinformation.

Comparison and envy: Social media can foster comparison and envy, leading to decreased self-esteem and unhealthy rivalry.

The social media when used moderately would give rise to the good, while a misuse or abuse would result to the evil , it's all dependent on the user. Have you been a victim of the good or evil associated with using social media, feel free to share your experience so as to educate others more.
