First, let's define what workplace burnout is

How do you explain work burnout?

Have you ever woken up and just hated the work you once loved? Well, I can't say I have, but I can say I have school burnout sometimes.

The ICD-11 of the World Health Organization describes occupational burnout as a work-related phenomenon resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed.sourced from Google

Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. Burnout in the course of employment can make one feel emotionally drained and unable to function in the context of work and other aspects of life.

I feel like, in a way, I can relate and understand what workplace burnout is with the way I feel towards school these days sometimes, especially when my friends are absent from school.
The stress and the feeling of being alone.

There can be several causes of occupational burnout

  1. Excessive workload:
this is when there is too much to do or too little time to do. I can confirm this as a cause; sometimes, in school,, we can be given so many assignments to all be submitted the next day. And it makes me unwilling with no urge to do the assignments when I think of the stress.

  2. Lack of control:
sometimes workers feel powerless over their tasks. Yes, just like a lecturer giving you assignments on something that you know you can't do but you still know you have no choice or say in it.

  3. Monotony and lack of purpose:
The repetition of one's daily life. Doing the same thing every day without any motivation. Just like sometimes, when I just keep doing the same thing, I wake up, go to class, and come back frustrated, and when I look at the way my country is now, education starts to seem very unnecessary.

  4. Toxic work environment:
a workplace with tension in the air, bad relationships with colleagues, unreasonable bosses, poor communication, and absolute absence of together can all contribute to lead to workplace burnout.

When one keeps on going through the above, the person just starts to feel detached from work. First, it might start with headaches, fatigue, and constant stress, then you start getting lost and losing focus all the time, making mistakes, or even feeling numb towards work— emotional detachment from work.

Preventing and overcoming burnout

Burnout in any place, whether it is work or school, should be taken seriously because it can take serious emotional tolls and affect one's entire life direction.

  1. Set Boundaries – Avoid overworking; know when to quit.

  2. Prioritize Self-care – Exercise, sleep, and relaxation are essential. And if there is no time

  3. Break the Routine – you can try new approaches to work and take breaks. Try new ways to do what you do at work.

  4. Seek Support – Talk to colleagues, mentors, or a professional if needed. Don't keep to yourself because it just gets worse when you do that. If not for my friends at school I am pretty sure I would have given up on school by now.

  5. Find Meaning in Work – Focus on what excites or motivates you. Doing this will make it feel like what you want again and not like you are being forced to work—nobody likes that.

From my experience with school burnout, I can say that the best ways to prevent workplace burnout are putting yourself first, finding something that excites you about your job or something you look forward to that pushes you to work, and finding friends in workplaces that you can talk to and laugh with. Everything is pretty helpful when you have support.

Monotony is what I consider as the main reason for burnout. When you keep doing a thing over and again, it becomes repetitive and stale. That's why it's advisable to atleat switch jobs, job locations, or job role overtime.
