Two can play this game.

in Hive Learners2 years ago (edited)

The phone rang again and Ben shot a quick glance at his wife. He picked up the phone and disappeared into the study. Bridget knew who the caller was. She has been calling a lot for two weeks now and each time she called, Ben never answers in her presence.

Few minutes later, Ben emerged from the study and picked up his car keys from the table. He looked at her and shrugged an apology. "I'm sorry Sunshine but there is somewhere I need to be right now".

Bridget let out a chuckle. She knew he was going to room 306 where meets up with his lover. She had snooped through his phone and found out about the hotel and the room number. Apparently he forgot to delete it on time since he has been deleting every other chat lately.

"Did you hear what I just said?" Ben asked with a raised eyebrow but Bridget remained silent with her hands cradled on her laps. He was cheating on her but she doesn't care anymore. She had cried so much the first time she found out. The discovery had left her heart shattered in pieces. She contemplated accosting him but on a second thought decided that the best way to pay back is to hit him where it hurts the most. Afterall, two can play the game.

Ben shook his head and sauntered out of the house. His wife has been acting cold towards him but after tonight, everything will be alright again. Immediately Ben left the house, Bridget picked up her phone and dialled a number. "Hello, the cat is out of the house, now the mouse can play", she muttered.

Ben was done faster than he expected. Everything was perfect just like he had planned it. It has been two weeks of planning. He needed perfection just the way Bridget loves it. He was certain tonight would end with love making. Ben chuckled at the thought of doing nasty things to his wife under the sheet in room 306.

He went back home and headed straight to his front porch. Something was different, Bridget was playing loud music. He went into the house and found two half filled glasses of wine on the center table. He heard voices down the corridor towards the room and headed towards it. He stretched his ears and heard his wife's soft moans. Ben's heartbeat accelerated and sweat broke out on his forehead as he hastened his steps and pushed the room's door open. He felt his chest tighten at the sight before him. Bridget was naked on top of his young next door neighbor on his matrimonial bed.

The young man saw him first and pushed Bridget off him, grabbed his trousers and jumped off the low window. Bridget grabbed the sheets and wrapped it around herself. Ben took a few steps into the room with his gaze fixed on his wife. Her face was red with embarrassment.

"How could you? Ben roared. He forced the sheets off her hands and threw them on the floor. "What are you hiding hmmm? The body you've so willingly shared with another man?

"Don't judge me Ben", she remonstrated. "How dare you stand there and question my fidelity when you are as guilty."

Her words flustered Ben. What is she talking about?

"You think I don't know about it? Room 306 huh? You betrayed this family first, Ben. You betrayed the vow we made. You betrayed our love. You betrayed everything the moment you decided to cheat on me with another woman"

Ben said nothing. He opened his phone's gallery and threw it at her. Bridget hesitated then picked up the phone. In the gallery were pictures of a beautifully decorated room with balloons hanging down from the ceiling. Red petals were on the bed and all over the floor. On the walls were boldly written the words, "Happy marriage anniversary to us".

Bridget let the phone fall off her hands. She has been so engrossed in revenge that she had forgotten their anniversary was today. Tear drops fell from her eyes as she watched Ben shake his head and walk out of the room. Perhaps, this anniversary may just be the last they will celebrate together.

Too bad... This is a friendly reminder that assumptions are deadly and can cost too much. Communication will always be the key.
This is a beautiful story indeed. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Communication will always be the key. You've said the conclusion of the whole matter. Thank you very much.

lack of communication and assumptions has really cause a lot of misunderstanding in marriages and relationships, hope people can learn from this and learn to talk things out with their partner before acting

I do hope they learn. Little things that can destroy marriage should be avoided through communication

Hmmmm.... This is not good. Bridget has not done so well. She did not try to even wait a bit before taking action. Now she has betrayed her husband

She didn't see any reasons to wait. Everything pointed towards Ben cheating but she didn't have to cheat back as a pay back. There are better ways she could have handled the situation but she chose the worst of them all. Thanks so much for stopping by. I appreciate.

Oh no! Even if she had to revenge, not to that area at all... She could have also waited and questioned Ben for cheating to hear from his mouth. She could have waited for his arrival to confront him first, even if she would do something drastic.

She has ruined it all...This means she has been meaning to do this already and why she did it immediately after he left has proved it. It´s so sad though. Indecision destroyed it. Interesting story ma

Exactly! In her world, Ben had betrayed her and she was going to pay back and she ruined it all. If she did it immediately he left, it goes it show she has been doing it and didn't just start today going by her phone call.

The morals, think before you act . Thank you so much for reading my post. I appreciate.

This story really got me!

Bridget lost it all, she just assumed her husband was cheating on her without good proof. And she now became the one who betrayed her husband's love for her😕
I learnt from your story as well! Thanks for sharing!

Assumption! This has ended a lot of marriages. We assume just because we see some some facts but sometimes things aren't what they seem to be. A little moment of heart to heart talk was all she needed. An eye for an eye doesn't pay and she ended up the loser.

Yea! A heart to heart talk would have gone a long way for her but she ignored it and acted based on assumption. A good lesson that I learnt from your story✅

It's a pleasure to know dearie. Thank you so much

You're welcome 🤗

betrayal is always an unpleasant attitude. thanks for the promise.

You are right. Betrayal is not a great attitude and betrayers should be avoided at all cost. If they did it once, they just might do it again.

A very sad and heart-wrenching love story. Hope we're doing well!
