Where are apps being marketed?

in Hive Marketinglast year (edited)

I'm curious if there's been progress in Hive DApps efforts to market their platforms outside of the existing Hive community? I can see that it's profitable enough to jump into Hive and try to onboard existing users, since they've already invested their time and will likely be the best source of users. There is a need (maybe it's being filled and I don't know about it) for incentives to market off the platform, as it's a greater challenge and based on the likelihood of those new users bouncing and/or not investing or earning much themselves in the early days, it may not seem worth the while for DApp developers.

I'd love to know if there are funds that Hive marketing professionals might be competing for or any other initiatives in place that I wouldn't be aware of. And if so, what marketing or advertising is happening and where? I've certainly sadly never come across an ad for a Hive DApp and even Google search results for Hive DApps is extremely disappointing.

Just a random photo of where I live to give this post a thumbnail!

I offer a marketing campaign here on hive. People get the oppertunity either to earn some small money by advertising or to offer a campaign. Details: https://peakd.com/hive-154303/@advertisingbot2/hive-marketing-campaign-23111701

I think I've seen ads for Splinterlands in the Brave browser. They have managed to get a lot of users, but many do not use other aspects of Hive. Mind you, it's hard to find mention of that on their site.

I've no idea what a marketing campaign costs these days, but I know you can target them on some platforms to a very specific audience. We ought to be aiming at people who are already into crypto.

I agree on targeting people into crypto, however I also think there's opportunity to get people who aren't into crypto depending on the DApp and what it offers. For example I think @3speak and @dtube should be targeting anybody who's anti censorship and don't even bring up the rewards in that campaign, as it doesn't have to be the primary attraction.

I was sort of interested in crypto when I joined, but I'd also been turned off it and got bored of the idea. The rewards did hook me though

Some people are actively anti-crypto, but Hive has more to offer. Being open source and decentralised could appeal. I am sure the 3speak guys have targeted people who get censored elsewhere. I did once see someone in a shirt with their logo in the paper, but they were hanging out with some right wing extremist who had been causing trouble. One guy I recruited to Hive gave up as he didn't like that extremist content could be tolerated. It's all a balancing act trying to attract people who will make it more appealing to a general audience.

I'm not a marketing guy, but we have some Hivers who work in that area and they need to cooperate.

That's sad that they couldn't tolerate their existence. To me that's wilful blindness because people like that (extremists left & right) exist in the real world like it or not. Better to know what they're up to than pretend we live in a land of cotton wool.

Totally, I'd love to see a collaborative initiative to build Hive's marketing team!

This is the most active marketing community: https://peakd.com/c/hive-189306/created

@valueplan is also supporting a bunch of specific marketing initiatives.

The DHF has been funding marketing initiatives for @inleo

How does the DHF work?

@lordbutterfly has talk a lot about this maybe connect with him. It is a difficult nut to crack. Things like Splinterlands and 3speak have a lot of potential as do Dapps like Actifit. It is about creating a fast growing niche community that will have broader appeal the people who are into crypto. The DHF is also a good thing to propose to if you have any ideas.

Love the boat. You lucky thing. Hope all is going well and that you can keep warm this winter.
