The lovely account shaggroed seems to have intentionally put through 300,000 transactions in the span of about 35 minutes. They created the account, leased RC from our leasing tool, and then rented servers from privex to help them spam these transactions.
Those transactions, which are just small market orders, were applied in 4 groups of 50 per block to as many blocks as he could. These transactions have forced block processing time to approximately a minute instead of under 3 seconds, and the layer 2 smart contract platform has fallen behind. A handful of witness nodes have diverged as a result.
These transactions have at least been temporarily halted. Giving us a moment to patch and catch up.
We're in process of catching up, deploying a patch to limit this kind of transaction spam, and reestablish consensus and steady block production.
The witnesses are awesome. The platform should be operational soon. Funds are SAFU. The system should have new safeguards put in place. We'll hopefully be back to normal functions shortly.
