I used to power up my Hive as it was earned, that is, I had my earnings set to 100 % power up. But then I realised that by powering up on autopilot, it meant that I never had Hive to power up on the 1st of the month - Hive Power Up Day.
So, at some point during September, I made a slight change to how my rewards are earned and elected to earn them in a 50/50 split of Hive and HBD instead. This way I earn and stack Hive until PUD day and then have enough to take part, this being the first month since I made the change.
I also separately earn HBD which I can either convert to Hive when the price is best (although the caveat to this is that it takes 3.5 days to convert so if the price suddenly jumps or dives you can be caught unawares) or I can keep it set aside so that I can buy some Splinterland packs when Chaos Legion is released.
Today I powered up my Hive for the first time ever on PUD. I powered up the minimum 10 HIVE to take part to try to earn a little PUD bee😂
To be fair, I didn't really have much more to power up anyway as I didn't start at the beginning of September and I also spent a couple of Hive on Dec for Splinterlands this past month.
So, today I am alive and proud of Hive. Proof of that lies in the fact that I have done my bit for our home on the blockchain, as I intend to be alive for a lot longer and want Hive to be there alongside me, thriving.

Yeah. Stacking up your tokens makes more sense than directly powering up. By doing so, you know how much you're investing per day, week or month.
Also remember that we have alive staking and reward package that is done on or before Thursday.

I think the penny just dropped lol. Is this the bro rewards then for holding and staking alive tokens? Didn't realise there was a cut off of Thursday but I guess there needs to be a cut off to determine splits by the Monday.
Actually those are 2 different things, the daily payouts of BRO is all based on how much ALIVE stake you have compared to all that is staked, the weekly staking contest is something I run on @flaxz and where I give away 1000 ALIVE tokens in total as stake to eligeble participants, and you need to apply for it to take part, the latest post is pinned up top in our Hive Community so easy to find.

I accumulate liquid hive and then power-up on the first of the month.
I use to convert HBD to Hive, but now i transfer to savings to earn interest.

When I first started, I wasn't powering up because I didn't understand the concepts of the blockchain, and I thought it was 'fake' money anyway. I was just doing it for the blogging experience. Since then, you would think I would know more about it, but I'm still confounded by simple concepts such as Power Up Day, which I just learned about from reading your post. Thank you for that! So, here's a silly question, why would you want to power up on this particular day?
I split my rewards with Hive/HBD because I'm using my HBDs to fund my NFT Art shenanigans in the NFT Showroom. :)

From what I understand it is just a great way to remind people to power up to invest in the community and to do it on one day as a community. You get Hive badges and "power-up" bees awarded as an incentive. It's a bit of fun I guess and creates awareness for the community. It's the first time that I have done it. I guess by having the badges it shows to the community that you do power up too (?) If anyone can add any more, that would be great. We are all here to learn :-)

Yeah, I have powered up 6 hive today but I've been having difficulty posting today. I don't know what's wrong with my end of the server as it keeps saying something about authentication. I've tried logging out countless times but still no change....

If you want to earn the power bee then you need to power up a minimum of 10 Hive. Do you have another 4 by any chance to power up? We could 'bee' PUD twins lol. Maybe try using the Ecency front end. peakD looks like it's hanging a bit. Also did you know that you earn points in loyalty points in Ecency that you can use to boost your own posts and increase your post earnings?
I'm not sure what the power bee is or what PUD is.
