Hello dear walkers and Hivers ! Today we are on the trail of a menhir and other historical monuments, but our walk starts in the harbor of the small village not far from which we are. At first, we observe the return of the fishermen and the unloading of the trawlers.
Not far from there we come across this 'monster' of the deep... already in the form of skeletal remains ^^ Right next to this future archaeological remains, we find these thousands of scallop shells and it's more visible on the last picture, but it's impressive to see how the tidal current has arranged them all !
After this first episode in the atmosphere of the port, we leave for a small rock formation accessible at low tide. The rocks here are truly amazing, it's completely lunar, you'd think you were on another planet !
I never tire of seeing the work of erosion and finally that of time, water, salt and wind...
Arriving on the small island which is cut off from the world when the sea is high, I discover with surprise this neolithic installation probably made by children... I really love it !
All this contributes to prepare us well for the continuation of this journey both physical and temporal...
And the walk continues ! On our way to the menhir of 'Lann Peulven' or 'Lann Saliou' which is located in the Saliou wood, on the heights of the village. From the road, the standing stone is not far to reach on foot. We go deep into these thick woods full of shadows, as we can imagine them in the Breton legends... or legends at all !
A brief encounter with a dragonfly at the turn of the road...
After ten minutes, even if you have walked briskly, you wonder where this famous Neolithic relic is ! And as it often happens, it is when we least expected it that the discovery is made (always !). At the bend in a small wood of very pretty birch trees, whose leaves flutter pleasantly in the wind from the sea, we discover the menhir which seems to be waiting for us.
If I remember correctly what I read in the guidebook we have at home, this menhir is almost six meters tall and probably several tens of tons of granite. But let's leave these physical considerations aside and plunge into a little meditation on what life and the course of existence of these men might have been like...
After a long time, we set off again along the path we had taken on the way there. Usually I prefer to take another road, to make a loop, but in this case, it was not possible...
In the wood next to the castle of Coat Tredrez, we discovered this beautiful Christian Calvary and it made me think of the term 'pagan' as if one religion was less pagan than another. With all the saints, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, Christianity seems much more 'poly' than monotheistic, but let's not go into theological reflections either. In my opinion, what counts are the images and what they want to tell us and what we ourselves are ready to receive and understand. Everything else is allegory !
We join a modern road and even though we have left it a few hours ago, the reunion with the traffic and the sight of poles is quite brutal !
Fortunately our passage on this road is quite short and we go back to the sunken roads, lined with wild blackberries which we enjoy ;-)
A little further on, we discover along a path, this authentic Breton manor or fortified farm. That makes rather dream even if my first image is not particularly engaging I admit it ^^
Finally, almost at the end of our walk, we come across this small traditional house that we could see ourselves in! We spotted the owner's permaculture garden and had a chance to chat with him a bit. I did take some pictures, but they didn't render anything, but I can tell you that everything was growing beautifully !
I don't know if you know, but the whole garden was surrounded by fences made of weeping willow. Fences that grow ! You can probably see pictures on the internet, but I've already found some huts completely built with this technique ! Worth a look :)
Here we are at the end of this mid-week walk. I hope you enjoyed it and if you did, don't hesitate to tell me in the comments. Thanks for your visit and reading !
I also hope you and your loved ones are well ! Take care of yourself :)

So many shells! :D
Looks like a very cool shore. I'd enjoy that way more than a sandy beach.
Yeah, impressive isn’t ? I think it’s a nice way of recycling ^^ I like it too, but near the house is more soft sand between big boulders of granite, definitely more pleasant for swimming ! As I’m tall I used to meet rocks too often :D
I love that lone standing tall rock 📸🙋♂️ kind of odd heyy? Do you think it was placed upright by people?? Or do you reckon thats a full work
Hi 👋 ! yeah, it was indeed placed like this by our ancestors, loooong time ago :) But it must have been quite a work like you say ^^
wow WHAT A walk, from the shore thrugh the forest and nature
so many shells washed up and lined up in patterns by the force of the sea
that statue is interesting never seen one like it
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)
Yeah ! that was quite a walk indeed ^^
There are a lot of those statues here, but didn’t see a lot like this one particular :)
The shells, I loved to see the force of such an entity as the see, nice to admire this like an ‘instantané’ !
Thanks for your visit as for the as for the last giveaway 😉 Take care !
ah sqqqqqueeee.. there's so much to love about this post - the sea, the volancanic rock bubbles that are exactly the same as the ones I featured in my post last week (wierd!), the birch trees (wow), living willow sculptures (double wow), the manor house - gah, so much history in your country!!! Loved this so much, thanks for the Wed Walk!
Incredible ! Those bubbles are indeed the same, that’s strange (not so much after all :D) same volcanic stone, wind direction and density of salt in the see water ?
I particularly appreciated the barriers in living willow, that definitely an idea to put in practice :)
You’re welcome, I’m happy you enjoyed the tour, it’s true it’s quite an historic region with very special and strong energies !
Saw the gardening challenge you shared today, I’ll gladly participate as I’m going back close to my urban garden ;)
Take care <3
No doubt that’s a great destiny to visit! It really called my attention the body of that fish! Unbelievable that it was so complete! Very good picture, and eye, to pay attention to that!! And of course the landscape is exquisite!
haha, there was plenty in more or less good shapes !! Thanks you, I’m happy you enjoyed the visit :) Take care !
