The best feeling on a working day is clocking out and being welcomed by a thick blanket of fresh soft snow. It is like walking out through a portal. At night I walked in to work from a rather slippery, grim and annoying realm, and in the afternoon I walked out on to a white carpet made specifically to skyrocket my mood.
No matter how many times I experience this, every single time I find myself in front of a blanket of fresh snow I feel like I am in Narnia. Now only if the roads, the cars, the buildings which are an eyesore, would magically turn into ice castles, frozen lakes, trees with snow for fruits, and a talking lion, it would be perfect, no?
To be fair, it does feel a little like Narnia. The hospital closely resembles the Castle of Caspian, or at least the watchtower of the castle. The garden in front is nothing less. Beautiful large space covered in snow, trees that bend in no specific order, and flower pots and a fountain. Very uncanny. Very beautiful. Speaking of which, peak the beautiful dance of colors in the far end. Ah, I love it. At this time of the year, evening rushes in right after the morning faster than you can say the word "afternoon". The only plus is that I get to sometimes witness the beautiful colors in the sky.
It is like a blessing in disguise, this sort of snow. It usually comes at the beginning of the winter season, at the dead end of the season, or straight in the middle. I am very obsessed with this play of nature since I spent most of my life in the desert. Even after living almost a decade in the colder part of the world, snowy winters are unbelievable to me. It is exciting, for the most part. I have no other way of explaining how I feel.
It is also the most satisfying time of the winter. Have you taken a stroll on fresh snow? Feels like cotton candy and fluff. I am a child at heart, so how could I refuse nature's alluring call? Took a nice little stroll in the neighborhood. Usually, I'd be a ghost as soon as I get out of work but such occasions are rare. It feels incredible, stepping on fresh snow and leaving a deep imprint on the trail. What is more satisfying are the lumps of snow on a pole or a seat, and stuff like that. Feels like foam and water, tensile strength at work.
Sometimes, the snow gets so high it has nowhere else except to fall from the sides. The snow is so soft that falling from a small height creates a crater around it, leaving a beautiful dome on top of the structure. I do not know what is it about these designs, but the domes and craters are simply so satisfying to look at.
Even more satisfying to destroy those domes. Evil Laugh.
I found a nice little shrub on my walk. Had a few green survivors clinging to the stems. It was a very welcomed surprise. I usually don't get to see a lot of green during the winter, especially in the middle of the season. Of course, I had to go and disturb the peace. Found a lot of blueberries hanging in there. I learned from a colleague that pruning blueberry stems during the winter is best. Cool little fact. Or opinion. Whatever you like.
It was a beautiful natural contrast. On a field of endless white snow, there stood a solitary stubborn shrub. On which lingered the last few hopes of life in green, and along with them huddled dark berries. It was a nice little visual treat. Something I have seen for the first time in my life. Kinda surprising I have never seen something like this before. But then again, I do not go out mapping the streets when winter comes home.
